Re: Interesting Single Otter Accident
A few Winters ago while flying a -34 Turbo Otter in the mid - 30s I had the linkage hang up and torque would not reduce below 20 lbs. Power lever traveled normally. Once back at the base and on approach to the ice, I pulled condition lever off and feathered the prop. The thing really didn’t want to ...

Re: Gen light partial illumination DHC-6
Our engineers found the problem. I may not have all the terminology right but here goes. Inside the crimped end of the cable leading to center post on starter/gen it had been arcing and once the end was cut open it was all black with carbon. A new approx foot long chunk of heavy cable with new end f...

Gen light partial illumination DHC-6
Have been experiencing intermittent partial illumination of Gen lights on a 200 series -6. Always both right and left lights and matched in intensity. When this occurs the loadmeter needle jumps around erratically. Only once has a Gen gone offline. Any ideas -6 gurus?? Occurs in flight and on water ...

Re: GUSTS! Handling tips & tricks for landing on floats
Plan your touchdown prior to or beyond the gusts. Experience will help with this. Manage your power accordingly, knowing that after you fly through a gust the bottom will fall out if you don't have enough power on. Much more could be said on this topic. Safe Flying.

Re: Raise your hand if you like...
I still fly in the north[ N Sask ] I recall doing a fuel haul 3 or 4 winters back and first flight of the day temp was -51, turned on avionics master and the GPS went BANG. Good thing I pretty much had a trail by then to the destination and back. And a cojo with maps.

Re: Single Otter Float Drivers
I should know the answer to this, but why is the speed restricted to 133 with a Pratt but not with the Garrett? Is this accurate? Is it just an approval thing?

Re: How Warm Is Your Turbo Otter?
Not too bad down to -20 or -25 c, But below that you're generally cold. We do put a foam plug in the front bulkhead when doing cargo hauls so you're heating a smaller space. That improves things a bit.

Since when do Westwinds ATRs go into wallyworld? Check your facts. TWs safety record vs Westwinds not even close. The big TW must average an incident a week. Aircraft don't compare either. With the exception of a small handful of planes, the clapped out fleet of TWs aircraft are an accident looking ...

I've heard it was CCE on skis. It was apparently frozen down on the ramp near the hangar. With lots of power it became unstuck, took out the pilot's truck, and destroyed a wing on the turbo beaver as well as crumpled fuselage. Both props and engines taken out as well on the T.O. Oh and for good meas...
