2 busy training schools (Skywings and Montair), Airspray Aviation, Buffalo airways, and the local General Aviation community.... Granted, it's no Springbank, but it can be heavily congested with student pilots.

Re: fifty reasons to find a new instructor
I"m saying they will be different. They won't be identical. Attitude, GS won't be the same. You'll require different power settings to achieve IAS at different attitudes. You're telling me that you can fly into a 15 kt headwind, obtain slow flight... Then do a 180, and using the exact same power, a...

Re: fifty reasons to find a new instructor
Headwind vs Tailwind.... Think about it for a minute..... You are saying that the power setting and IAS (not GS, IAS...) required to enter and maintain slow flight depends on wind? Think about it for a minute... I"m saying they will be different. They won't be identical. Attitude, GS won't be the s...

$300,000 in damages doesn't seem that unreasonable when you take into account the lost wages. I mean they definetly won't be working for WestJet now, which was clearly what their intention joining the program in the first place was. A shitty situation overall, pro tip is never pre pay an FTU. Re: fifty reasons to find a new instructor
What's wrong with the first one? Targetting a specified speed shows that you can control the airplane in slow flight, no? He said "target a specific power setting and speed". Both will differ with wind conditions, altitude, direction of wind. You can't just "Pull it back to 1800 rpm and slow up". P...

Re: Did I waste Time And Money?
I found my flight sim useful for AFTER I completed a lesson. Mainly getting the order of systems down. (I.e.- downwind checks, carb heat, landing light etc.) Aside from that, it wasn’t overly similar to actually flying. Useful, yes. But not realistic enough to make any FI be happy about it. Go find ...

Re: okotoks flight school
I have a friend who is planning on starting there. It's been a bit of a BS match between lack of planes, instructors, and getting a straight answer. Everything from what is included in the "Premier Price" (apparently, ground school is extra), to when there's actually availability to get into a class...

Re: Navajo lands on the street in yyc
It has been some years now since I flew a 31, but I do have a fair amount of time on them... So....lets clear this up. The POHs are quite clear on when to switch to inboards. The Capt, or other pilots should have seen the error in the SOPs and brought that to the attention of management...A perfect...

You'd be better trying to get a taxi to ZVL over Cooking Lake. Flew into Cooking for Grey Cup, and had a heck of a time trying to arrange a pick up there beforehand.Hugh Jasshole wrote: ↑Mon Jan 14, 2019 10:06 pm Cooking Lake is about 4km closer to downtown than ZVL according to Google Maps.

Re: COPA for Kids pilots now require police check
Was there a case of Child molestation in Junior hockey before Graham James? What about Catholic churches? US gymnastics? That's what they're trying to protect. Having someone slip through the cracks, and at the same time, protecting themselves from any potential lawsuits, with due diligence. Welcom...

Re: COPA for Kids pilots now require police check
Reasons for the checks, are to protect the kids! Simple as that. I'll ask again - protect them from what? Has there ever been a case of child molestation at any CFK or Young Eagles volunteer flight program? You can't say your protecting anybody if the event you're concerned about has never happened...

You pretty much answered your own question by giving an example of one thing that might "catch" you. What if you shared a name? or a physical description? What if, as a result of these or other, more private, irrelevant factors, you fail the background check? Trust me... I have an EXTREMELY common n...

Re: COPA for Kids pilots now require police check
Think what would happen if a security check was required for all and many said "Eff it!". If that's what they did, I wouldn't be standing down. I would agree that it's a reasonable action to take. But to require *only* the pilots, who have the smallest window of opportunity to interfere with a chil...

Re: COPA for Kids pilots now require police check
Every single association, school. volunteer opportunity that now deals with children requires a police check. I'm in a similar situation with Glenn (C-GKNT), where I went in to have one done, and subsequently had to get photographed and fingerprinted in order to prove I wasn't someone else with an a...

The sad thing is, the amazing RAF history of Vulcan was completely overshadowed by the Star Trek stuff. A lot of the locals hate the Star Trek stuff. I work a 40-50 hour a week job, plus travel out of town for 10-14 days a year. Add in a 10 day vacation camping with the family, and that’s my life. I was able to have the support of my boss to take time away from work during the day to complete my flight hours. Since I just finished filling in my l...

Thought I'd share my experience, as I'm now a Flight Exam away from completing my PPL. Should have been done a month ago, but Mother Nature apparently has been talking with my wife, and doesn't want me to fly (friggin weather). That, coupled with the new flight school in Okotoks, claiming that "the ...

Agreed that it was probably a "relief joke". My wife, however, didn't take it that way, and proceeded to mention how "dangerous" GA is.

Partnership - Interests? Red Deer Area
Throwing it out to the masses in Red Deer area. I'm currently completing my PPL, and am trying to "put the cart before the horse" on this. I'd eventually like to purchase / become an aircraft owner, and am now thinking perhaps a partnership with 1-3 other people might be the way to go. Personal pref...
