Re: Flying school costs

Another school to consider is Moncton Flight College. They have an integrated ATPL course which is 52 weeks and the cost is $56000 for the 2017-2018 program. I plan on taking this course next year. They also have a 2-year diploma program, a 4-year university degree program, as well as shorter integr...

PilotDAR thank you for sharing this. It's a great excerpt, and well relevant on this forum.

Re: The importance of having a degree

But I'm old fashioned compared to the wiser ones here, because I hate debt. That makes two of us who try and avoid debt. With regard to flying for a living I avoided debt by having my employers pay for most of my training once I started flying for a living, I payed for my PPL, CPL, instructors rati...

Re: The importance of having a degree

Back to the OP, I personally have not seen any correlation between non aviation formal education and cockpit job performance (and I have one of those little aviation college diplomas where I had to do calculus, big deal). Seen good and not so good regardless of diplomas/degrees or lack thereof. Whe...

Re: Survival Training?

Hi, I know this post is a bit old, but not that old. As someone else said, I would suggest going to a First Nations band office if there is one around and talk to them. If you can't find anyone locally to help/ teach you, I would suggest buying a copy of "SAS Survival handbook". https://www.amazon.c...

Re: 45 yr old and want to de a career in aviation

It is very doable. You will have to work your ass off and be open to taking shit from younger guys that think they know everything about life and actually know more about aviation then you currently do. Hard work and keeping it humble goes a long way in the industry. Good luck and have fun. This- n...

Re: 45 yr old and want to de a career in aviation

Thanks so much for those replies guys! It's refreshing to hear some positive news like that, as reading a lot of older posts and different forums, all the advice is doom and gloom. Much appreciated! My plan (if I do in fact follow through) is do an IATP program followed by instructor rating, and hop...

Re: starting out

I'm curious. Realizing the original comments were 14 years old, do any of you experienced guys agree with the doom and gloom outlook of those few comments still today? I keep reading the industry is looking up with the pilot shortage. I'm sure it's probably still hard to get that first job, but all ...

Re: 45 yr old and want to de a career in aviation

Hey Eric, I am in the same boat (but 42) and seriously considering leaving the military after 20 years to start over in aviation. I will definitely be watching this post to hopefully see some helpful advice. Good luck!

Chris
