Re: WestJet new direction with ULCC integration

He left out the part where the real reason for swoop was to attempt to restart salaries and implement a B-scale. Glad to see it failed. Yup. It took 4 years of pain and BS but I too am glad the reset attempt spearheaded by a specific individual failed. Alexis has said in this article exactly what t...

Re: Strike

There is an ONEX/WestJet board member known to troll this and other aviation-related websites. Information from a very reliable source.

I hope he is getting good information to take back to his fellow board members.

The days of discount Canadian pilot labour are over.

What Commonwealth does is Commonwealth's business.

No one is telling him/her what to do. I am just stating that actions have consequences and thought should be given to any "extra" flying during a strike.

Re: Don't be a scab

I want to clarify these comments. If my airline assigns me to fly a WestJet route during the strike that makes me a scab? Do I have that right? Crewbunk: I could not agree with you more. The "stink" of a scab never goes away. Time does not heal that wound nor does it lessen the memory of those the ...

Re: Don't be a scab
Hmz. Not sure that circulating their personal information is the appropriate response. Quite the lynch mob mentality. How does an airline end up with 2.253 scabs by the way? Sounds like there was more going on than just a strike.
I have zero concern for a scabs personal information...

Re: Don't be a scab

Back to the message title. “Don’t be a scab”. While the term “scab” is batted around a lot, the true scab is one who while a Westjet pilot on legal strike, accepts payment to fly Westjet’s aircraft. I won’t mention the morality of that, but I have seen the effects. I merged into Canadian Airlines f...

Re: Competing Union

The reality is that many of the "old guard WJPA" were former MEC and LEC reps at their former ALPA shops. They know how dysfunctional a third party wedge is. The real shame here is that the pilot group didn't pursue certifying in house prior to ALPA. The "lets not let the pilot group vote on their ...

Re: Competing Union

If SW is the new MEC I will no choice but to support the other guys. SW is toxic and the company will not work with him, his past proves it. If this is the choice of the LEC they are completely out to lunch. WJ pilots should expect another garbage arbitrated agreement. I have read a lot of BS here ...

Re: WestJet Dedicated Freighters Post by digits_ » Wed Jun 23, 2021 9:06 am Does that mean that recalled junior pilots will have the joy of flying night freight for the next 10 years? Beats the S..it out of not working. Lots of pilots enjoy the steady wages earned from Large Cargo Air operators. Do...

Re: Another Group Unionizes

All WS shareholders could either attend the special meeting or vote either via the Internet with the identification code supplied, or send in a paper vote. Quite a few employees I know attended the special meeting and voted there. I used the Internet method. A package was sent via mail with the pur...

Nobody got to vote on the sale, it was a done deal before ever being revealed to the employees.

Re: More WJ layoffs

WestJet seems too focused on how to game the employees. They're giving up market share, canceling orders, while others are expanding and placing new orders. Although the tendency by employees is to usually blame the big bad company when things don’t go their way, it is simply not so in this case an...

Re: Will Westjet survive?

The number of MBAs and other business and/or management types that are responsible for airline failures far outweigh (by a huge factor) the number of failures that can be attributed to those holding pilot's licences. Corporate and financial mis-management are probably the number one cause of airline...

Re: A "NEW" One List?

From some of the information coming down the pipe I think it is fair to say that some of the company's positions/demands were unreasonable and clearly an attempt to gut the CA and take advantage of the current crisis. They were looking for an easing of scope, either to expand Encore or more likely S...

Re: Layoffs

When I first posted it was 691 out of 1620 layoffs without any mitigation that had been announced. Since then our MEC has negotiated an MOA to mitigate layoffs but only until the end of April. A reduction from 77.5 to 55 hours credit across the board and a few other compensation items, it means no-o...

 Why do I get the impression people are chomping at the bit to see Air Canada pilots get laid off? I don't believe anyone in their right mind wants to see any other pilot laid off and I didn't start this thread with that intention. I was genuinely curious as to plan for pilots at AC because my...

Given the savage numbers of layoffs being proposed at WJ is there any discussion of layoffs at AC?? I've seen the reduced schedule announcements but not a peep about any workforce layoffs.

Savage doesn't even begin to describe it. Seriously???? ..And just what are they supposed to do. Pay everyone to do nothing and let the company die? I said it was savage, not wrong. Tell me honestly that even 1 month ago anyone would have envisioned the events of the past 10 days. Laying off an ent...
