Cat, Maybe I was misinformed, but I was talking to a guy who had just hopped out of a Spitfire, and it came up in the conversation that he wouldn't do a wheel landing with it due to prop clearance. He also mentioned the Mustang as having a similar stance. However, after looking at a few pictures, it...

..and X/winds are a complete mystery to many.. Any comments about why these things are so common? Cat If you don't create a need to correct X-wind, people won't do it - a tricycle gear plane straightens itself, no matter how crooked you are when you plunk it down (to a limit, obviously) Tailwheel t...

Ok, STL Notice that I made no comment on the abilities or development of you "hands and feet" beaver drivers (I have to assume that you've actually done that). This is because I really can't comment about something i've never done. I find that when one tries to sound well informed about something th...

Just doesn't help you build any flying skills, that's all. STL It's obvious that you have never been an instructor if you say something ignorant like that. What better way to learn than to watch people make mistakes all day? Like the saying goes "learn from the mistakes of others, because you won't...

In my opinion it's everyone's own responsibility to brush up on what they may have forgotten over the years once in a while, i know i do. Sure there are some ignorant pilots out there but it would be difficult to filter them out. It's unfortunate that more pilots out there aren't proud enough of th...

So, you are saying that experience doesn't improve someone's skill and knowledge? While I do agree somewhat with the fact that experience will improve skill and knowledge, it is important to distinguish between experience and TT. I know many pilots with lots of TT but little experience, and a small...

Log it how you want to, but for the PTR TC seems to want a point of origin and a destination as a minimum. eg. for diversions in the remarks section they want to see something like "town A to town B" or something like that. For your own personal log (outside of meeting licensing requirements) do wha...

spend a few hundred hrs on a good uncertified sim at your home, splurge and get some good controles, as for an app I am personally a big fan of X-plane, but there are others out there, I would stay away from MS, not very good for IFR I find.... THEN after you know 100% what you are doing, then jump...

A three point landing (properly flown) will always be shorter than a wheel landing. A 'tail low' wheel landing is still a wheel landing, and will still be longer than a three point one. Somebody else mentioned using a three point landing in calm conditions only. There are no such conditions which wo...
