Re: One List

In spite of all the noise about doom and gloom and shortage at Encore, according to the MEC the numbers that went from there to AC or WJ/WO to AC are about the same. Pilots will ultimately go where they like and the one list is not the panacea to pilot shortage. Also, was it said by MEC, that this p...

Re: One List

Then the MEC should share the results of that "survey". The MEC cannot possibly "stand by the pilots' decision", and "continue to negotiate" on its own agenda at the same time! In its emails, it continually contradicts itself. The MEC must serve the membership, not the other way around! Are you daf...

Re: One List

The one list was voted down by the group. Is it not the unions job to move in the direction that the group voted for? Was the vote just for show? If the union can't support the group on this issue how will they support on other issues? Surveys! Surveys! Surveys! The surveys after the failure of the...

Re: One List

...I'm glad you said that Encore pilots come across as entitled. This is rhetoric that has been used before, and will no doubt continue to be used. If one applies for a job, and during the interview they are offered a different job, but it exists in writing that said job contributes to seniority fo...

Re: One List

altiplano, since you seem so eager to contribute, what are your thoughts on the subject and why did ACPA fight and defeat it? These guys don’t know what was going on 20 yrs ago Cloak. The majority of them were still pissing the bed. 🤣 I suspect you might be right and a lot of the contributors are v...

Re: One List

It would be interesting to see that survey by which the MEC created a mandate for itself to renegotiate the one list right after the first vote when it said specifically it wouldn't. Of course it said it to bear pressure on the pilots to pass it. Then it said the pilots "failed" to pass the resolut...

Re: One List

That's fine, however it could be argued that it is a personal choice and pilots can go to WestJet directly, or Encore, Link or other regionals WestJet may start and flow from there, but to the BOTL. It can be appreciated that there's no good reason for WestJet pilots to leverage their seniority to r...

Re: One List

It would be incorrect and unfair to blame the WestJet pilot group for the failure of the one list. In fact it could be argued that the one list was started by them to compensate for poor initial conditions at Encore. It could also be argued that had the initial WAWCON at Encore was in line with the ...

Re: One List

If this was all 10 years ago I think selling encore would make sense but the industry trend right now is actually moving back towards owning your regionals... Even if that were the case, it need not come with a common list. It is unlikely that Air Canada would want to merge its list with Jazz anyti...

Re: One List

As someone else already stated merging Encore reduces flexibility. Anything that is done to fix Encore is going to cost money, the one thing that is unlikely is seniority accumulated flow. As the WestJet moves to a more traditional seniority style airline the willingness to allow any sort of prefer...

Re: One List

At the end on the day you will need your employer on side for a single list or flow through. I very much doubt Onex will entertain anything that would make a possible sale of an asset more problematic. Good observation. Onex will likely have little appetite for merging WestJet and Encore which redu...

Re: Air Canada Pay

Air Canada flies the heaviest metal, has the largest fleet, and is the only flag bearing carrier in Canada. You are at the head of the Canadian industry. Every other company in Canada is pegged at Air Canada's current wage scale. What's the starting wage on any 705 machine in Canada? About the same...

Re: 2020 Hiring

Hey Cloak, Why do you think Swoop will grow? Have you heard ONEX wants to grow Swoop? It's been stated publicly that Swoop is one of the main areas of growth. Its costs are lower, it's allowed within the CBA to grow to 30 tails, reportedly making money, and most importantly guarding the rear, so na...

Re: 737 to 787 Upgrade Times

The frustration is understood. To some it's personal. To some it's just business. One has to ask why was a company created separately in the first place? It's these flexibilities that may also be appealing to new buyers. Much has been said recently about recruitment and training challenges. A move l...

Re: 737 to 787 Upgrade Times

All numbers and predictions are pure speculations based on old plans and figures, all of which are about to change. Two to three years ago, it was unthinkable that WB FO positions would go to new hires at Air Canada. Of course the corporation was several moves ahead of the union and foresaw this tim...

Re: 2020 Hiring

I'd have to agree that, no disrespect, it is pretty arrogant to promote contractors for training simply because it'd be nice to be involved in Canada again! Why not go to flight safety or CAE to do that?! And to be entirely honest, WestJet training cost is not that high and its quality is very good ...

Re: ONEX plans

... No one will be confusing Swoop from WJ’s mainline product anytime soon, and the route network, as far as I can see, is 100% mutually exclusive to mainline ops. It doesn’t touch hubs. There’s no mainline connectivity, period. As pointed out in a RJ Report a few years back, if you’re going to und...
