Re: One list

DFR aside; in the current environment of quite possibly more mergers and acquisitions, a purchase of a "regional" carrier for instance makes merging the said carrier with the "regional airline" of WestJet wiser and more practical. This was one of the main reasons for creating it separate. With China...

Re: One list

Recent events are but a glimpse of the vision of transforming WestJet into a global carrier. The Onex deal is the vehicle by which that vision becomes a reality. As unsettling as the day to day events may feel, with little vision and patience one can see a bright future for the group. There will lik...

Re: WestJet to be sold in friendly deal to Onex Corp. for $5 billion

Onex has been eyeing WestJet for some time and at recent (unwarranted) suppressed share prices, it must have felt compelled to make a move. WJA shares should really be trading over 40, so even at 31, there's room for Onex to invest more into the group and unlock its true potential and value. Only th...

Re: WestJet to be Acquired by Onex

Shrinking the business does not produce over 5 billions! This deal is possibly still developing!

I'm not one for shorting stocks as a general practice, but if I were a gambler, I'd be shorting AC; surprising that it rallied today!

Re: WestJet to be Acquired by Onex

imo Onex is unlikely to be selling much in the short term. I believe there is great opportunity for growth particularly in certain areas of the business. Their involvement in leasing aircraft will make aircraft acquisition easier for the group. Paying such big premium on the shares shows Onex believ...

Re: WestJet to be Acquired by Onex

Oh I'm very relaxed, thank you! Just amusing that two hours into the announcement some think they have this whole thing figured out!! Spend a few decades in the industry and a few days, weeks, or months in the room with investment bankers, Gerry Schwartz, Trinity Times Investment, or Cerberus and y...

Re: WestJet to be Acquired by Onex

I would watch for asset divestiture and laser focus on the bottom line at the new ONEX subsidiary of WJA. And which asset would that be, the one that competes with/bothers you?!! You would like that, wouldn't you?! Not only is it possible, rather quite likely, that Onex may be doing things slightly...

Re: WestJet to be Acquired by Onex

I believe great opportunity beckons at WestJet! Onex is a solid investment firm with lots of experience and cash to develop all segments of WestJet to its full potential of a world class airline, and develop the partnership with Delta. Onex has been interested in managing a major Canadian airline wh...

Re: One list

altiplano, it feels good for the ego to quote oneself! Joking aside, I wonder how ALPA will react in light of this new development. However, it is not a foregone conclusion - as much as AC folks would like it :D - that WestJet will be split up. Imho, it is more likely that Onex for some time develop...

Re: One list

... To say I need to vote yes because you were promised something, while accepting that I’m giving up what I was promised, is unrealistic and frankly, unfair. ... And that is the main point that stays hidden when people view this deal from a narrow perspective and with emotion. Additionally, this a...

Re: One list

It matters not what was said or not said to OTS pilots, Encore pilots - or anyone else for that matter - at the interview; this is a new day and new opportunity through a democratic process. Nothing is static in life. Times change and people must change with the times. Terminating the one list will ...

Re: One list

This is an interesting topic... not just as it relates to Westjet/Encore but as related to other airlines. Certainly worth looking at how other airlines manage flow from their regionals both now and in the past - including flow from wholly owned regional subsidiaries. Do any offer seniority DOH car...

Re: Record revenues vs 4 year flat pay

The piece you don't understand Schnitzel, is the low starting pay has nothing to do with Air Canada (The Corporation) and everything to do with ACPA. The company could care less if the 4000 Pilots were all paid exactly the same, all that matters to them is the cost of the entire Pilot payroll. It i...

Re: One list

Admittedly it is a difficult discussion to have in the presence of emotional attachment, at the same time pragmatically it is quite likely not just the OTS pilots, but also the ones that fly with them and know them and their experience. This is natural "human" tendency, albeit seemingly unfair to so...

Re: One list

Firstly, congratulations to Encore pilots for securing a "good" contract and the 90% vote shows that the great majority agree with this sentiment. Great gains have been made in areas of flow and compensation, for not only flow has been increased to 60%, but it seems for the first time there is monet...

Re: Encore contract negotiations

JBI, good post! In 6 short years Encore has matured to present an attractive opportunity - in many aspects better than more established airlines - especially for the younger pilots that seem to be coming through its doors. And it seems to do it now without pricing in the "one list", which is great. ...

Re: Record revenues vs 4 year flat pay

altiplano, thanks for the explanation of the recent events, although it is no justification for four years of flat (probationary) pay. Air Canada corporate has been two steps ahead of ACPA all the way. And I agree that Air Canada wages set the standard that other airlines follow. It is not the other...

Re: Encore contract negotiations

Perhaps Encore should not have had one list either since no other regionals offer that. That may have inflated expectations...at any rate, as mentioned, Encore does offer a very attractive deal for the young pilots that join it as they do not have to worry about interviewing and such again in their ...

Re: SWOOP - A New Hires Future

Rhetoric aside, there is little difference and honestly, speaking of "sleeping in one's own bed" Sunwing has its own problems judging by recent overseas drafts and attrition...bottom line, there are positive and negative points to every job; ultimately one has to decide based on personal situation a...

I think those comments are very emotional and honestly worth editing. Swoop and WestJet are one bargaining unit, Encore is not, simple. In time when wide body program is established opening new markets, Swoop is established guarding the back door, things may look very differently...

Just to keep things in perspective though, Jazz and Sky regional pilots not only don't have YOS, but also no guaranteed flow...perspective! True. Re: SWOOP - A New Hires Future

Normally I’d say that it looks like some pilots needs to find their balls and start booking off fatigue away from base for maximum effect but we’re talking about Swoop crews here ... Ok ace, Swoop's pay is the same as Sunwing and Transat, plus it pays profit sharing and ESP, so not sure what you me...
