Re: More WJ layoffs
Ok, I'll post my reply to you here, so you can read it. You should care if Encore is sold. Or if WJ buys Transat or Sunwing. That PTA agreement might not matter very much once the merger agreement negotiations happen between the pilot groups. Those other pilot groups might care a bit more about adh...

Re: More WJ layoffs
Interesting. Apparently an ATR fleet made more financial sense for Encore at its inception, and whether it was the Alaskan roots, or the Rockies that tipped the scale for the Qs, a common fleet type makes integration with Porter more efficient. Maybe Onex can consolidate a real alternative choice fo...

Re: More WJ layoffs
Likely being a public company now would have worked out worse with share prices very low making WJ a target of (hostile?) take overs. It is difficult to speculate about more lay-offs, but this late in the game, likely both sides want to “exercise patience” a little longer until meaningful recovery b...

Re: WS/WO Layoff Mitigation Agreement
Let's hope things get back to normal-ish by the end of the summer so we're not faced with more potential lay-offs if there isn't an extension of this MOA2. An extension of this MOA2?? How about hoping the other 450 of your coworkers start to get called back. I know it will be tough but dont forget ...

Re: A "NEW" One List?
Hi Cloak, you should talk to a rep. The company sees opportunity in this crisis. Their bargaining positioning was on the lines of: 1. Gutting scope, larger Jets at Encore; 2. ESP removed until their discretion; 3. Compensation reductions; 4. Layoff pay concessions; 5. Recall out of seniority. No wo...

Re: A "NEW" One List?
The radio silence shows disrespect for the 700 pilots who will be laid-off by week's end, and the other 1000 who will follow, not only to fail to mitigate lay-offs but also to fail to transparently, timely and professionally communicate the facts. Much less would ordinarily cause a recall. Experienc...

Re: A "NEW" One List?
We didn’t see the offer because it was laughable. The NC sees it, laughs, then counters. At the end of the day the offer might have moved from laughable to merely insulting. Talks are over now as they should be. And yes the NC is getting praise for listening to the pilot group and not giving away t...
Re: One List
It's amusing all three parties signed on to the scheme with different expectations and aspirations, none of which have come to fruition!

Re: A "NEW" One List?
I think the short term concession MMG of 55 or even 50 would have been given for a longer MOA pretty easily, I could see differing the ESP until certain metrics are met by the company.... Under the circumstances likely most agree, so the question remains why the union has not communicated the offer...

Re: A "NEW" One List?
ALPA... Why is anybody shocked? They did what they always do. Protect the upper seniority pilots and sell out the junior ones. This is just a very extreme example. 1700 extreme which in my opinion is probably at least 600 more than it should have been considering the range initially presented was 5...

Apparently quite a few, including association members that fought Swoop, which is ironic and shows the realities of life are not always idealistic!

Re: A "NEW" One List?
Wouldn’t it be great if our MEC would actually communicate some of this information to its membership!!! Indeed, very good point! If truly the offer by the company was so bad, the MEC could easily share it to garner more understanding and support. Logic would dictate otherwise. In truth, the MEC ha...

Re: A "NEW" One List?
...Seriously guys... I have an open mind here. Given the scale and scope of this disruption to our industry, why is 0 concessions for maximum layoffs a good thing that you're in favour of?... The short answer, it is not. Given the scale of reduction seen worldwide, it would be unwise to "hold ...

Re: A "NEW" One List?
Using clichés like "hold the line", "stick it to them" are not negotiation and don't work at all under the current environment and are to the detriment of the pilot group because one supposedly "holds the line" against foreign enemies entering one's home; these are disc...

Re: A "NEW" One List?
Actually, the MEC was capable of saving 1000 pilot jobs. However, the MEC is responsive to the membership and the membership clearly did not want to make concessions and therefore there was no deal. You can't "Hold the Line" while at the same time caving to the company's demands to save j...

Re: A "NEW" One List?
Apparently certain unions would not allow the pilots to make accommodations by accepting reduced hours (for a period), and hopefully this is not the case here where ALPA for instance would not allow the MEC to entertain certain proposals.
Re: One List
Due to a desire to change jobs back in late 2019, I thought I might start applying at WJ. The Onelist thing had fallen through. Seemed like a good place to work. Then all of a sudden, Onelist. Instead of anybody coming into WJ mainline from the outside starting at the bottom, which seemed fair, all...

Re: A "NEW" One List?
Well those who were upset about Encore making concessions, must be right happy now that the mainline MEC wasn't able to save a single job. Those top ~500 guys can now continue making 150-200K +ESP while the rest get laid off. Your disappointment is understandable. This is an unprecedented challenge...
Re: One List
The only practical option is for WJ to close Encore and place the Q400's into the WJ fleet. +1. And may very well happen. With all due respect, that will not change the challenge presented by current conditions. The challenge right now is not unique to WestJet or even airline industry. It's global....
Re: One List
Plus it puts WestJet group at substantial financial disadvantage to say Air Canada group. It is idealistic to think WestJet is going to rewrite labour structure and in the process increase its costs so much that puts its longevity in question. It can't do something substantially more expensive than ...
