Re: One List

If this was all 10 years ago I think selling encore would make sense but the industry trend right now is actually moving back towards owning your regionals... Even if that were the case, it need not come with a common list. It is unlikely that Air Canada would want to merge its list with Jazz anyti...

Re: One List

As someone else already stated merging Encore reduces flexibility. Anything that is done to fix Encore is going to cost money, the one thing that is unlikely is seniority accumulated flow. As the WestJet moves to a more traditional seniority style airline the willingness to allow any sort of prefer...

Re: One List

At the end on the day you will need your employer on side for a single list or flow through. I very much doubt Onex will entertain anything that would make a possible sale of an asset more problematic. Good observation. Onex will likely have little appetite for merging WestJet and Encore which redu...

Re: Air Canada Pay

Air Canada flies the heaviest metal, has the largest fleet, and is the only flag bearing carrier in Canada. You are at the head of the Canadian industry. Every other company in Canada is pegged at Air Canada's current wage scale. What's the starting wage on any 705 machine in Canada? About the same...

Re: 2020 Hiring

Hey Cloak, Why do you think Swoop will grow? Have you heard ONEX wants to grow Swoop? It's been stated publicly that Swoop is one of the main areas of growth. Its costs are lower, it's allowed within the CBA to grow to 30 tails, reportedly making money, and most importantly guarding the rear, so na...

Re: 737 to 787 Upgrade Times

The frustration is understood. To some it's personal. To some it's just business. One has to ask why was a company created separately in the first place? It's these flexibilities that may also be appealing to new buyers. Much has been said recently about recruitment and training challenges. A move l...

Re: 737 to 787 Upgrade Times

All numbers and predictions are pure speculations based on old plans and figures, all of which are about to change. Two to three years ago, it was unthinkable that WB FO positions would go to new hires at Air Canada. Of course the corporation was several moves ahead of the union and foresaw this tim...

Re: 2020 Hiring

I'd have to agree that, no disrespect, it is pretty arrogant to promote contractors for training simply because it'd be nice to be involved in Canada again! Why not go to flight safety or CAE to do that?! And to be entirely honest, WestJet training cost is not that high and its quality is very good ...

Re: ONEX plans

... No one will be confusing Swoop from WJ’s mainline product anytime soon, and the route network, as far as I can see, is 100% mutually exclusive to mainline ops. It doesn’t touch hubs. There’s no mainline connectivity, period. As pointed out in a RJ Report a few years back, if you’re going to und...

Re: ONEX plans

Cloak, is it ok for WJ to protect it’s backdoor but not AC, the structuring may be different but the strategy is not? Of course it's ok, but the way Air Canada was doing it, which was, on its normal flights that matched Canada 3000's schedule, sell a few seats cheaper than Canada 3000, according to...

Re: ONEX plans

It's very admirable for Air Canada apologists to come out and try to defend it, and why wouldn't they? They work there and their livelihood depends on it. But this is the example of a 300 pound 7 foot beast of man cage fighting an agile young lean fighter who can really move and land some hits, but ...

Re: ONEX plans

C3 went bankrupt because they ran out of money, had debts due, and nobody would lend them anymore. Turns out denial is not just a river in Egypt! Just because you keep telling yourself that, it don't make it the truth! Air Canada and its Tango were absolutely responsible for demise of Canada 3000, ...

Re: ONEX plans

Well, you can talk to him about that. In this case though, clearly it is a response to Air Canada. It can be said that WestJet is learning from history whereby Air Canada bankrupted Canada 3000 but by a "Tango" and then it decided to apply some "Rouge"! WestJet is being wise even if some of its own ...

Re: ONEX plans

Because it removes Swoop from the WJ group, it is an arbitrated anchor in our agreement and point of division in our group. Not by pilot group making, but certainly created by management. The fact that there are hundreds pilots eligible to bid into Swoop from WJ/Encore and they are advertising here...

You should know you’re working for the airline the started the race to the bottom in Canada, 55/hr for 737 Captain, you should be ashamed, furthermore Rouge was handed down in arbitration and the Contract was based on the WJ pilots contract at the time, thanks for all you’ve done for the industry. ...

It also shows lack of solid grounds for such action to begin with, assuming that perhaps ...

Re: One List

This is not a highly technical engineering issue! One has to wonder about the benefit of something when it's turned into something complicated and convoluted that only serves to keep lawyers employed. It's simple, one gets hired at a company, one accrues years of service and seniority. Last in, firs...
