Re: C Series lands at EGLC. Toronto Island loses out. Again.
Imagine if Porter got rid of some noisy Q400s and replaced them with reduced frequency on A220s? Somethingike a 3 for 2 ratio. The waterfront area would be much quieter. There’s a Falcon 20 that comes in here all the time. You barely know it’s here. And then Metros and MU-2s come in here and it’s t...

Re: Does Anyone Remember the Maple, Ontario Airport ?
I don't really remember much about the airport, but my very first flight was in a 172 from the Maple airport. I was so young that I could not see over the panel! Our family friend Ron took my dad and me on a sightseeing tour over Niagara Falls. I had always been afraid of heights, but I loved that f...

Buttonville Tower Closed!
Today is the final day for Control Tower operations at Buttonville, CYKZ. Curiously, at least from my viewpoint, you will not find a NOTAM about the change. Instead, NavCanada has posted it as an AIP Supplement. The Buttonville Control Zone will now be 24 hour Class E, MF airspace to 2000 ASL. If yo...

Re: Mid-Air Collision Near Ottawa
Having engaged in a recent FB discussion with the Ottawa based pilots I actually think the problem is a lot more basic than needing ADSB. What became evident in the discussion was that at CARP some pilots are talking to Terminal as they are approaching the airspace and others are doing circuits are...

Re: Class 1 Flight Instructors—Coastal Pacific Aviation
It cuts both ways. How much are they going to have to charge the instructor candidates for their dual training time, if the the Class 1 is getting paid $60 per hour? Instructor pay goes up, so does the cost of your ratings. Lucky for you if you already have them all!

Re: Buttonville Tower set to close in July!
PlanePaully: most likely there won’t be a RA. YYZ 24L/R traffic doesn’t begin descent below 3000 til about 7-8 miles final, well past KZ. The 1000 ft vertical separation needed is for wake turbulence. It is assumed that KZ circuit traffic is of the light weight category while YYZ 24L/R ILS traffic ...

Re: Looking for a CFI for 2 people on a piper 140
You should join the Buttonville Flying Club, if you have not already joined. There are a number of very experienced instructors who are members of the club. The members portion of buttonvilleflyingclub.com has a list, but it might be good for you to come out to meet some of them, first-hand. The clu...

Re: Buttonville Tower set to close in July!
I have a question for the big boys: If an unaware pilot busts the 2000 foot cap on the CZ and crosses the zone at 2500, will landing traffic for Pearson 23/24 at crossing at 3000 ft get a TCAS RA?

Re: piper arrow down at CYFD
I still can't understand why someone would key the mic for the ARCAL multiple times, but not say a word otherwise. It is very perplexing.

Re: piper arrow down at CYFD
What was weather like last night? I tried listening to the LiveATC feed archives from around 06:00Z. It sounded like there were over a dozen attempts to key the mic for the ARCAL, but no voice calls recorded. Weather radar clipped from LiveATC archive from 05:48Z. BUF-Nov-13-2018-0600Z-radar.png

Re: CYTZ GA survey
From what I have seen, heard and read about the fees and the generally unwelcoming attitude to GA at YTZ and the Porter FBO, it appears that Porter has forgotten just where future pilots come from.

Re: Bird Control... any tricks?
I once lived in a condo that developed a huge Starling problem. They tried a number of different things at which the Starlings generally laughed. They finally left after they brought in a falcon handler and one of his birds for a couple of visits. The Starlings moved out immediately!

How tough are those 737s? Air India Express 611
The article says that this flight clipped a brick boundary wall and part of the ILS while taking off and then pilots just kept on flying!!

Re: After Hours at CYKZ?
This question is becoming more relevant. Apparently, the Tower hours at Buttonville will be reduced to 08:00-20:00 local (from 07:00-23:00), effective this Thursday, July 19. I have not yet heard if the PPR hours will be changing to match the new tower hours.

Re: After Hours at CYKZ?
As I understand it, if you are based at Buttonville, and returning to land after hours, you may land, following the MF procedures, but you cannot take off again without permission from the operator.

PM me and I can email you a copy of the NAV Canada study PDF. To support their decision, they assumed ZERO movements from September of 2017 onward.

Re: Buttonville Tower set to close in July!
I attended the monthly Buttonville Flying Club meeting last night for an update. Here is my take on what was shared there: CYKZ management is working hard to have the tower closure decision rescinded. Since the beginning of the year, movements are up substantially at Buttonville. However, a lot of s...

Re: Buttonville Tower set to close in July!
April in Indiana showed exactly what can happen when you mix fast jets IFR, slow VFR, intersecting runways, poor radio communications and no control tower to keep everyone safe:
