Skies Magazine - Industry in Crisis

I was just reading the latest skies magazine edition, where they have this article covering how the 703 world is in crisis. Interesting is that they didn’t ask the opinion of any pilots to make the article, only air operator management and owners. So it got me curious about what you all think about ...

Re: Is AC considered a Legacy Airline anymore?

Everybody here comparing AC to a third world country wages. I gotta say, AC has it worse. The cost of living in those countries are a lot lower than Canada,(they might be making very little money for us) on their perspective they make more than many doctors and lawyers in their countries, and can ha...

Re: American Airlines, one of the world’s largest airlines, has announced plans to pay its pilots up to $590,000 per yea

The headline says $590k, but the story says $300k. Which is it? Both - the 300,000 is the increase for FO's. American is matching the new Delta deal with a 40% raise.... So By year 4, narrow body captain tops at $475,000, wide body captain $590,000 annually. https://twitter.com/cbs11doug/status/163...

Re: New Hiring Minimums

Rudder has it nailed. Anyone with experience to be a CA at Jazz, has better options with Flair, Lynx, WJ, Sunwing, AT and AC mainline. Why saddle yourself with a shitty paying FO spot in YYZ? Even initial captain pay is abysmal. We need 1800-2000hr pilots who can upgrade in under a year. Even then,...

Re: TA…HERE IT IS AND IT SUCKS

Hey guys, Watch out! This is our opportunity to do a major overhaul in this industry. We have basically every contract coming up for negotiations in the next year or two. Let's demand better! We can be at the US level. Don't accept to fly for peanuts in this insanely expensive country. Value your pr...

Re: TA…HERE IT IS AND IT SUCKS

One thing a lot of people forget to take in consideration… At Westjet and AC as an FO you keep years of service, and whenever the upgrade comes you will go to the equivalent pay. Imagine now the poor sucker joins flair with around 1000hr and does 4 years on the right seat. He will have to start righ...

Re: Recruiting and Retention Bonus

I'm glad you love the retention bonus. No one else does. Anyone under the age of 40 will continue to go to Air Canada. Speak for yourself. I love the bonus. I was already on planning on staying, so this is just free money. I'm well under 40 and have ZERO desire to go to AC. Many of my colleagues at...

What we need is a major industry-wide strike. A joint action ACPA/ALPA.

Re: AC Pension

That's exactly what I was looking for, thank you. How does it compare with the rest of the industry offering RRSPs matching at 3-7%? Not entirely sure what you're looking for, but this is the breakdown of contributions: Employee Pays: - 6% of salary (less than 2 years of service) - 7.5% of salary (m...

Re: Q of L

You work 15 days a month. Pairings aren’t always productive, so actually flying it will likely be around 10 or less depending on how many deadhead days you got. Long layovers for Canadian airlines standards, very common to have 2-3 days somewhere. Commute can be done, fairly easy actually depending ...

Re: Lynx wawcon

You can shout all you want about how bad the ULCC salaries are in Canada but what does Jazz start at again? That salary has to be at least 50% higher than starting at Jazz. Jazz's only retention bonus is going back to flat pay at Air Canada for less money than Lynx. I think I'm starting to see the ...

Re: Mobile phone plans - (for Canadian pilots layovers in US)

Check out Fonus mobile. It's basically an AT&T reseller with an attached VOIP service to it. You can port your Canadian number to it and use their VOIP app. 30 USD a month for 25GB then reduced speed in USD/CAN/MEX. Data works wonders besides tethering (seems like depending on your phone it still wo...

Re: Jazz to launch pay for type rating program

That's a crazy amount of money! I finished all my training in 2016 including the instructor rating and I paid like 55~60k, who in their right mind would spend 120k+ to do the same? If you don't wanna move up north go get your instructor rating and do that until you get 1500Hrs and Jazz wi...
