Re: To start now, or wait a couple years?

Well that’s not so useful...

I’d agree with Photofly then. If you’re not happy in your current job, have a plan, and can afford to make the switch now then go for it. Time is the one thing you’ll never get back. Plenty of opportunities you might miss out on because of those 1.5 years.

Re: To start now, or wait a couple years?

A lot will depend on how you plan to structure your training. The way VAC breaks down “formal training” vs “short course” will affect how much they’ll pay and the schedule over which they’ll pay it out. Take a read through policy below: https://www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/about-vac/legislation-policies/p...

Re: How difficult is it to become an RCAF pilot?

Sounds like the key for those with prior experience would be to just stay humble and assume that the IPs know more than you and are teaching you their way for a reason. Thanks for the insight, TT1900. Stay humble, work hard, and be accountable. The last part is huge, you must be willing to admit er...

Re: How difficult is it to become an RCAF pilot?

Honestly have no idea. I saw perhaps a half-dozen ACSO’s and about the same Army/Navy transfer’s in my time there. Don’t recall any former FE’s or AESOP’s. From what I recall the failure/withdraw rate was likely higher than the off the street or RMC groups, but the sample size is too small to draw m...

Re: How difficult is it to become an RCAF pilot?

If you’ve already completed and passed aircrew selection and the medical at CFEME then you’ve cleared the largest hurdle. Those are, by far, the stages that remove the greatest number of candidates. Is aircrew selection the hardest part of training? Not even close, but it may be the most stressful a...

Re: A Career in Aviation or Law Enforcement?

Have you thought about the RCAF? Everything you’ve written leads me to believe your heart is in aviation but practical considerations are pushing you towards law enforcement. As a pilot in the military the job stability, decent starting pay, and benefits present in law enforcement are applied to fly...

Re: Masters of Science in Aeronautics - ERAU

My experience with ERAU is it’s a mixed bag. If you pay your money and put in token effort you’ll get an A same as someone who puts in 40 hours per course every week. I’m pretty sure everyone graduates with a 4.0 as long as assignments are in on time, no matter how poorly completed. It can be frustr...

Re: WestJet CEO is livid

A Quebec based government headed by a Quebec based Prime Minister that has a hate on for Alberta allows two government backed Quebec based airlines to set the conditions to crush a private Alberta airline. Just business as usual in Canada. Last I checked the government hadn't backed any airlines. I...

Nobody sitting “in the seat” is foolish enough to post on this topic. They’ve all been told with no uncertainty to steer well clear of this topic. Many have signed NDA’s.

Les Chevaliers du ciel.

The French Top Gun, just as cheesy but so much better. Based on a comic book series. Some of the best air-to-air cinematography out there.

They operate 15+ aircraft, have been in business for over 30 years, and I couldn’t find any fatal accidents on their record. Let us know when your stats look that good.

Too close to the ship? You can’t be serious.

Re: Too old to fly for a career?

If you don't think that you are too old, you likely aren't. Usually the ones who have to ask, already know deep inside they are. I'm 49, and probably in better shape than 95% of the people half my age. After work today I shoveled snow, split firewood, carried in firewood, and after dinner will go w...

Re: Should have asked for the option...

You did absolutely nothing wrong by stopping. You can reject a take-off at any time; as soon as you were wheels down you were on a takeoff clearance. Honestly sounds like sound decision making to me. Talk when you can. There is a reason ATC sits in a tall tower where they can watch the situation. Wh...

Because 650,000 jobs depend on it. Not to mention in the event of the industry tanking there would be a loss of a huge amount of Government revenues and a large associated expenditure. Over 4% of our country's GDP and future economic growth and development across multiple sectors and regions depend...

Re: Save Canadian Aviation March in Ottawa Oct 20th

I think it’s a mistake to equate current airlines failing with the collapse of the airline industry. If Air Canada went totally bust tomorrow others, either already in existence or newly formed, would pick up viable routes. Yes, it would be an uncertain time for employees but nothing that hasn’t bee...

I really think some of you really don't understand what's at stake here... Also, why the hell should the 777 captain sacrific his salary for the betterment of others? I am a type of person who is willing to do whatever I can for someone to help them out, but to give up my own salary, which I have r...

Re: Steep Turns At Low Altitude

Lots of good advice in here. I’ll second the suggestion of some aerobatic training if you are able. It will both demonstrate the true limits of the aircraft and build confidence in your ability to control the aircraft at and beyond those limits. Primary among these skills will be airspeed awareness....
