Most recent junior Q400 position in YVR went to a pilot with 1 year seniority (effective Dec 1, 2019). (just for a reference for those wanting YVR)
How long for the average upgrade at all bases these days ?
YVR 1 year
YUL 1 year
YYZ 1-2 years
YYC 2-3 years

1 Year for YUL DH8 Captain position as well just was awarded.

Re: New hire bids

The GGN pilots in this most recent GS were not part of the MOS 4 group that will come over with their seniority. GGN pilots coming over with MOS 4 could be as early as July but likely Aug or later.

100% faith in the Q and the crews at Jazz. I would put my family on any Jazz operated DH8, Q400, CRJ.

First day flying a CRJ in the DRC (last plane flew was the DHC6)
DRC Thunderstorms the size of holland and picking your way through a T-storm line into an airport that reports "no rain or weather on the field" but the rest of the world is lighting and death lol

Re: Entire application process timeline?

2 GS in June
1 GS in July (just added a week ago)

Starting in Aug GS will have GGN pilots (not sure if 100% or just a portion)
*this will again be dependant on the 737Max fiasco
Rumour is 737Max back in Oct

Re: ATPL as a requirement

I've changed my opinion on DEC.....unless there is a major economic disturbance or something changes at AC, I would foresee DEC hiring at Jazz in 2021...... Only so many PICUS Captains, not many pilots coming with ATPL, many collage grads. This will also depend on how many pilots who wanted to go to...

Re: Any chance we just lost our AC flow?

I highly doubt the flow will stop, there are so many moving pieces at the moment with WJ and ONEX and AC + AT. Things will continue to move, retirements will continue to ramp up over the next 10 years. Guessing and worrying will only make things worse for you in the mean time. So just go to work, en...

Re: New hire bids

With the GGN flow over delay because of AC & GGN and the 737 Max fiasco it looks like things won't start flowing to Jazz until after Sept.....so probably won't see many RJ positions in the upcoming initial hire bids. Just a guess but things on the RJ front have kinda hit a bump in the road.

Re: YYC base destinations

YVR has a lot of open positions for the Q from the last bid. YYC I do believe was full, so it will depend on how many people senior to you want to get into that base (and as the Classic is reduced in YYC I can only assume the guys from the Classic will slide over to the Q positions CA and FO). YVR ...

Re: YYC base destinations

The Classic DH8 in YYC is about to see quite the reduction (forecast) so I wouldn't pick the DH8 YYC. The May DH8 bid pack shows 80% of the flying either YVR based coastal flying or YYZ based flying.....telling.

Re: need info for training cost in Victoria flying club vs Harvs air

The Manitoba area has some of the best weather year round for flying. Clear skies in the winter (cold) and usually great summers. Cost of living in Manitoba is far cheaper than Victoria BC. Plus a few good 703/704/705 companies in Winnipeg to apply to while you're working on your Instructor if you w...

Re: IFR Written Exam

When I did my INRAT and then the ATPL exams, I bought the aerocourse question book and . books and basically just studied for 2-3 weeks full of questions back to back to back. I found those worked really well for me, I did not do the aerocourse.

Re: Ratings in what order?

It all depends on what you want to do with your license in the end. I would suggest: 1) Night (then do all your solo time building as Night, Cross-country PIC which will ace your ATPL requirements in the future) 2) Multi (never expires, gives you a solid command of the twin before throwing IFR into ...

Re: Hanging your hat at Jazz?

Rowdy, I’m not sure if you’re serious or not but, 2019 age 62 = 37, 2020 age 62 = 29, age 65 is 15 and 17 respectively, definitely not the top 1/4 of the list. Over the next 10 years, age 62 totals approximately 503, age 65 totals approximately 461, anyone staying at Jazz will move up fairly quickl...

Just a correction, top 1/4 of the list retiring over the next 10 years, two years would be nice though.

Re: Hanging your hat at Jazz?

28% (those that are post 2015 hires who plan to stick around) voted No. That is over 400 pilots! Sadly, there were about 600 that were new and wanted AC desperately and another 500 or so on the old scale that this would carry them straight through into retirement. Beautifully played by CHR and AC. ...

Congrats on retirement. However Jazz as a career destination will be significantly different for any person joining now or even in the past years since the implementation of the B scale. Compared to the Jazz you experienced and appreciated. The new current Jazz might as well be a completely differe...
