Re: Jazz to launch pay for type rating program

The expansion of the PICUS program is a hard sell for me. It solely benefits the company if they don't have to pay LTC's to move their low time, NON ATPL pilots into the left seat or help them off to AC. I'm also heavily against any P2F scheme like the jazz approach. I'm also not a fan of the pathw...

Re: Jazz to launch pay for type rating program

Vermont, A few corrections. Travel on the air canada network is not free to Jazz pilots. There is a cost, and it's more than you'd think. Its also standby and loads for the last few years have been high. Commuting is a huge pain and I wouldn't recommend it. Base changes do happen fairly quickly, bu...

Re: Jazz to launch pay for type rating program

Guys let’s calm down and step off our high horses and face the facts. Flying an airplane is really not that hard. There are a handful of exotic emergency situations that an inexperienced airline pilot might face but the odds are slim to none these days with all the training, automation, dispatch, m...

Any updates on this review? I'm in the recruitment process for both Jazz and Westjet and I'm trying to collect information in order to make the right decision. If anyone has any updated information to share, great!

Re: Jazz Approach

Side comment: What does a CPL + Multi-IFR cost these days approx? (non-collage)

$126,000 seems......expensive. Mind you I did all my training back very early 2000's and cost me $45,000 all in (including float rating).

Re: Entire application process timeline?

My guess would be a groundschool every other week, so there's two Monday's in January that work (6th and 20th), two in February (3rd and 17th), but three Monday's in March (2nd, 16th and 30th). Maybe more a function of the calendar than any actual ramping up.. it's still a G/S every other week no m...

Re: Commuting at Jazz

there are a few pilots commuting from YLW to YVR on the Q. It’s possible but it will all depend on your seniority and your monthly schedules etc. Almost any commute is possible, it just takes time and money to do it (crash pad, flights, public transit etc).

Re: Jazz YHZ Base Rumours

Not really a rumour. The -100s are going west to do the ex B1900 routes like Lethbridge and Red Deer and of course Cancelgar which the Q400 can’t do. The 100s are doing YQL, YXH, YCG etc. Red Deer was terminated a year + ago. The Q400 can for sure do YCG, will just depend if Jazz/AC wants to do tha...

Re: New hire bids

So a new pilot at Jazz, for the foreseeable future, would likely be looking at a western base ? And a hard time bidding back out east to YYZ? It’s all going to depend on what type you get. Q400 will have a tough time getting to yyz as the Q base is shrinking. If you get DH8 or RJ you could get to Y...

You wouldn't happen to know roughly what time of the month the ground schools are in November?

Re: Reference Checks

Just curious, when a potential employer does a reference check what kinds of questions do they ask to your past supervisors? Could be anything. If you have something to hide best to figure out how to clear it up with your past employer or explain it in the interview....or even better yet leave that...

Thank you very much for all the quick answers! It is super appreciated! Re: Upgrade Times and Pension

Hi Guys. I was wondering what upgrade times where looking like. For background I have my ATPL and 1000 hrs on Dash 8-100s. Also, what is Jazz’s pension plan like? Pension is a DC type. You put in $$$, the company puts in a little $$$$ and at the end you take it home and hopefully the investment fun...

Re: Ground school soon, what should I know?

How long does it take to complete training at Jazz from Day 1 of GS to the sim ride ? And where does it all take place YYZ or YVR or ?? Depends on training availability. I've heard of guys having 2-3 weeks off between IPT/Initial Company Training and then SIM training. I'd say if you have no hold u...
