Re: RCAF looking overseas to fill pilot shortage
Outlaw. Honestly no. Honestly. I actually wanted to fly an A330 for Air Canada or Transat. That was my dream. That will never happen either. I bring up Cold Lake for two reasons: 1. It's an abysmal place to live, mostly due to its shitty climate and lack of things to do 2. The CF-18s are actually a...

Re: RCAF looking overseas to fill pilot shortage
I'll add to that. Offering "part time" (reserve) positions would do wonders for the Air Force. Doesn't the National Guard in the USA do that? They do offer Reserves....in Edmonton.... Old Country? My dad is ex-army, my husband and dad-in-law are ex-airforce. What I wouldn't give to have been a test...

Re: Anybody Joining/Rejoining the Airforce?
What difference does it make? Why would they be looking for combat ready pilots? War incoming? As Goodguy pointed out, they should be taking Canadians above all. Companies must prove there are no suitable Canadians before employing foreigners. Almost reeks of the whole TFW thing, except, this isn't...

Re: Anybody Joining/Rejoining the Airforce?
Hmm... I can't get the recruiters in Ottawa to call me but they're hiring foreign pilots now? Are you trained on any of their equipment? I’m pretty sure they are looking for quick turn-key solutions and not the multi-year projects that ab-initio RCAF air crew are. What difference does it make? Why ...

Re: Harvs Air
Hey folks Just want to give everyone a heads up on Harvs air.... STAY AWAY if your going to do any of your ATPL courses with them. First of all most the material on their ATPL course is just the commercial course with a couple more topics. As for the course material they figure that the only eyes t...

Re: Flight instructor
The easiest thing to do might be to lease the plane to a school, then have said school run a satellite operation out of Airdrie. Not sure which of the schools one would want to approach about that though. Most of the freelancers I know aren't planning on taking on any other projects at the moment, ...

Hello Everyone, I'm new here in terms of posting. I've followed this forum for a while as I have had a lifetime interest in aviation. Life took me many directions and I have currently been accepted to an IATPL program starting later this year. I am not interested in any negativity on this thread or...

Re: Class IV Flight Instructor Job Market (West or East)
Hi, I am planning to start my instructor rating training by the end of this year. I love teaching and I have mentoring and counseling backgrounds. My goal is to be employed as a class IV instructor at the FTU I obtain the instructor rating. I heard that there are more opportunities on the west side...

Re: Liberal “ Green New Deal” includes Canada wide high speed rail and allows employees to transition out of high carbon
I know nothing of engineering trains, but it's interesting: in Japan, the Shinkenzen (high speed train) services all the flat areas. As soon as you end up in the mountains (Japan has lots of mountains), the trains are similar to what you find in Canada. Bede, the Hokuriku Shinkansen goes north from...

Re: "Self Study" Groundschool
Why is it crazy? There are many ways to learn the material. Why does it *need* to be in a classroom? Lol. I think you misunderstood what I meant by "Crazy". Not crazy as in bad, just crazy in how things differ over time. No insult. No worries. Ah, I understand now. Yes, things do change over time b...

Re: "Self Study" Groundschool
Okay. Yeah not sure. I'd have to call TC to find out if that's even possible anymore. Crazy if it is. Why is it crazy? There are many ways to learn the material. Re: "Self Study" Groundschool
But for CPL/PPL you have to show your gs hours when doing the exam and the FTU's get audited. How did you bypass that? I logged the time spent studying, and showed the log to the instructor. He was okay with it. Keep in mind this was in 1998. Okay. Yeah not sure. I'd have to call TC to find out if ...
