Re: Corporate pilots and FBO's.
Echo S69A. Thirty two years as a corporate pilot and that was certainly not our expectation nor was I witness to it. At the end of the day it was the FBO that could often mean the difference between a great flight experience for our pax or a mediocre one. Treating the ramp personnel and the CSR's wi...

Re: Why on earth are CF-18's in Bagotville?
I have a lovely 11 x 17 mounted photo over my bar of 4 CF101's flying over the Miramichi River bridge doing a final salute to the citizenry of the local towns that had hosted the squadron for decades prior to the political decision to move them from CFB Chatham, New Brunswick to CFB Bagotville, Queb...

Re: Lancaster KB882 is getting a new home
The last time I crawled around that aircraft was not long after it had been used for a French TV show or movie. A number of the cockpit instruments had been "liberated" over the years so there had been numerous holes in the panel that I had seen on a previous look-about. The production company had g...

Precisely 15 mins notice prior to the Minister rising in the house to make the announcement. Although there was an "unofficial" story the night before from Canadian Press makin...

requires you to contact ATC and get a squawk code for border crossing. At the US border, look for a nearby airport that has an instrument approach. Google it, and write down the center or approach freq. Contact Moncton Centre when in the vicinity of Fredericton on 124.3 and advise you need a squawk...

Re: Private Operating Certificate. When is one needed?
The last draft I was briefed on about 7 months ago included turbine pressurized, 6 or more passenger seats. TC at the time seemed pretty set on that model. Previous to that (shortly after the announcement of repatriation to TC) they had been going with turbo jet, greater than 12,500 and/or 9 passeng...

Re: NB. Tankers.
Last one left last year. The last couple have gone to museums. The last time one was used in an operational role was about 4 years ago I think and that was more just in a back-up role if I recall. One was supposed to go to France on a French aircraft carrier. It had been brought up to a flyable cond...

Re: NB. Tankers.
Maybe your engineer was slightly confused by the news that the NB government shut down its flight department on May 4, 2013 after 42+ years of continuous operation. All staff laid off. That closure had nothing to do with fire suppression flt ops however.

My first couple of licences had the letter/number combination as mentioned above and also included the coloured diagonal stripe. The colour of the stripe indicated the type of licence. If I recall without digging through the back of the closet I believe red was private, tan was commercial, green sen...

And don't forget this audiogram requirement, as both my CAME and myself did, when you turn 55:
The applicant shall be tested on a pure tone audiometer at the initial examination for a Medical Category I and at the first medical examination after age 55

Re: De Ice & Anti Ice costs in Canada
$2,300 sounds like a pretty quick spray, like wings and tail only. Last deice bill we had was just over $4,400 for the same category of aircraft at YHZ late last March for I and IV at the central facility. I believe the lowest deice bill I've seen us get in the last couple of years is just over $2,0...

Re: Canadians Flying Out of USA
Why do I drive 2.5 hours to catch a Delta flight to ORD with a family of four? Because to catch an Air Canada flight (my only option where I am) was priced (Tango fare) at $3,467CDN. The same flight 2.5 hour drive away was $1,031CDN. Allowing for gas and parking and I'm saving over $2,300! That pays...

Perhaps a bit more detail would help better elicit the type of information you are looking for. The PL21 system can be configured in different ways depending on the airframe manufacturer. It also supports various database providers ie Jeppesen, Lufthansa. What is your airframe and who is your databa...

I see what you mean about RCAP approaches It's not just RCAP approaches. Here is just one example, CYSL. NOTAMS have been existance for a few years now and are periodically renewed. Not trying to sound like I'm nitpicking but just wanting to point out, regardless of the interim order, a private air...

The problem with that statement is with no POC, no Op Specs. No Op Specs, there will be some things you can't do with the aircraft and a number of airports you can't access in IMC.King Air no longer requires a POC. See Interim Order 9

Speaking from the perspective as one who reviews CV's, is a member of an interview board etc, if it became apparent that an individual was attempting to include simulator time as part of their grand total of flight hours, wherever they were in the process at that time would end at that point. If an ...

Re: Pilatus PC-12 in Airline Operations
PJ I'm not arguing the merits of single vs twin vs turbine vs piston (at least not on this thread  )....BUT this is a call by insurance underwriters when writing those particular policies and they tend to look long and hard at a number of factors when measuring risk. I just find it an interest...

Re: Pilatus PC-12 in Airline Operations
Nothing to do with levels of frequency but I am aware that the life insurance policies taken out in the name of some high level execs have a prohibition against travel on single engine aircraft. That was a factor in at least one major corporate operator's decision in this country to dispose of a sin...
