Re: Air Sprint Questions

Hi Matt,

Just wondering if it would be possible (feasible) to work at AirSprint at yyz or yul and commute from Halifax?

Re: AirSprint Fleet Transition

Just wondering if anything has changed at AirSprint in the past 10 months or so to make commuting out of Halifax, for a Montreal or Toronto base, a more viable option?

So have some personal pride in a job well done and unless someone asks about it keep it to yourself.

Re: Jazz YHZ Base Rumours

In the small likelihood that this rumour turns out to be true, any idea how much advance notice Jazz employees would get that it is happening before it does so?

Perhaps sign up for a year with EVAS and then get your PR through the Atlantic Pilot Program while you're in NL or NS.

Re: Realistic TT for Jazz or Encore?

Depends on how the job was advertised as well. If the operator misrepresents the job, which used to be fairly common in certain medevac ops, I don't blame people for leaving. A bond usually has a reason. That reason is seldom advertised. Great companies don't need bonds. Exactly correct. Funny how ...

Re: Realistic TT for Jazz or Encore?

That's where you are wrong. Europe, with a variety of airlines and a good safety record, proves that this is not a requirement. Well selected 250 hour pilots are perfectly capable of learning how to safely fly a B737 or A320. This is true, I've got a friend training for an airline in Germany right ...

Maybe things will change if the US starts recruiting Canadian Pilots, then AC and WJ will have to increase the salaries.

Re: Pilot Shortage / Minimums /disconnect

Try living in Sandy Lake, Pickle Lake or Fort Severn. Would make Southern ONT like Sioux Lookout look like a goldmine to live in  all a matter of perspective
.

Ha yeah, spent a couple of weeks in Pickle and good point.

Re: August Equip Bid

Highly unlikely they will open another base. Especially YHZ, but ya just never know any more. As for overnights, thats a difficult one as the schedule changes frequently. I see something different every time I open a monthly bid package these days it seems. I'm going to guess the CRJ and Q from YUL...

Re: August Equip Bid

I know it's just a guess but does anybody reckon there might be a return of a yhz base in the future?

Also as somebody who's applying to Jazz and lives in Halifax, which base gives the most overnights in yhz (I'm guessing Toronto)?

Thanks :)

Re: Pilot Shortage / Minimums /disconnect

I would much rather live in YQT than YYZ. Living poor in YYZ is depressing with the traffic, price of housing, entertainment, etc., but a313 is correct, I think most would. My coworker is finishing his IFR and is going to become an instructor because he refuses to move. He never wants to leave a bi...

Re: Pilot Shortage / Minimums /disconnect

This is the problem with just using amount of flight time instead of type of flight time as the criteria. Someone who's got 1500 hours flying around in their own floatplane is not gonna be as quick at picking things up in an IFR environment as someone who's got 800 hours, 600 of which have been spen...

Do NS have any flight benefits with other airlines? So that if you're on rotation on the PC-12 in YQT you could get standby tickets.

Re: Pilot Shortage / Minimums /disconnect

Simple fact is that some of these operators might have to go bust, if they cant get the experience they require they're better closing the doors than putting someone with no experience in a dangerous position.

Re: Pilot Shortage / Minimums /disconnect

I see what you're getting at, that someone with 200 hours and just out of flight school is going to probably be more up-to-date on the rules and regs and more keen to learn than someone with 1500 hours of bush flying. In some ways you're right but think back to what you were like at 200 hours, now t...

Just curious, is the 737 FO job out of Edmonton or Calgary rotational? Could you live in another province and commute?

Thanks
