Re: AME Wages - AME's Unite!!
Thank you chowda. My company employs an auto mechanic to take care of the ground support equipment and tugs, he had chats with engineers other than myself about wages. He informed me one day that he easily makes at least 40% more annually than the 5 year license holder who gave up his wage info to t...

Re: AME Wages - AME's Unite!!
My point with the Red Seal aspect is that their training is recognized. If they wanted to change trades, they're given credit for applicable courses, their time for apprenticeship is prorated, it's interchangeability I'm talking about. We don't have that luxury.

Don't over think it! Sounds like the brushes are worn. Upgrading the SG will only make a difference because it will come with new brushes. From my experience the 200SGL119Q likes to do strange things even with half life brushes. It's probably why they don't allow field replacement of the brushes, on...

AME Wages - AME's Unite!!
Why are AME wages so low? Why do the benefits suck so bad? Why do we put up with so much BS from Transport Canada? Why are we not a "Red Seal" trade? As far as I can tell, good experience is dying off in the industry. No companies are willing to pay wages that can compete with other industries. Tran...

Re: can a colour-blind person work in aviation?
The only eye exam on the maintenance side that I know of is for NDT. Also, it's probably a good idea to avoid avionics because there are still some color coded wires on components.

Re: Future AME Discouraged
Everyone can rant on, and go for it. Isn't that what these forums are for? I could care less about what evryone is ranting about, but back to the base topic and I'm going to be honest here. If you want to fix stuff and make money, stay out of aviation "PERIOD". If you don't cut it in automotive, avi...

Re: Pilots vs Plane Drivers
If somebody calls me a driver, I take it as a compliment. As an AME, I'm more comfortable flying with someone who would rather be called a driver. That tells me he/she's not living in a delusional world, and they understand that that a driver is exactly what they are. Its disappointing to see situa...

Re: Another Crash in the Maldives
I fix'em, I don't fly'em, so I'd be pissed about having to rescue these airplanes all the time. I'm curious though, is it true that they're not allowed to hire Canadian F/O's over there? And is it the same with maintenance? It changes things if the floats are ready to fall off in the first place.

Re: Better search and rescue in the north
Of course a company is going to find their downed aircraft first. Ever heard of a thing called flight following? How about emergency response? I'm pretty sure that both of those are a TC requirement these days for any commercial operation as part of the SMS programs. And what good is a C-130 in a no...

Author, Bill Fraiser, "CAR's for the AME" I believe its called, if you know the sample exams...I got 90% first go... know AC 43.13 plus some standard A&P General and Airframe stuff by Jeppsen (the stuff that AC.43 doesn't cover) I don't know about the avionics exam, sorry. Just keep in mind that if ...

When I put my signature and M# on a logbook I am stating that by the power vested in me by Transport Canada and the powers that be that this aircraft is fit and safe for flight. Pilot error will be the only factor that will affect the airworthiness of this machine, and that is beyond my control. If ...

Re: Defect entry in the logbook by the AME
Anyone know what the TC enforcement action is if you don't enter defects you've found in the log book at the owners request? Want to be able point it out for a pushy owner who really doesn't want to fix anything. On the assumption that I'm clear that you're asking about "defects you've found" as ap...

Yikes! Totally depressing. Makes me want to quit and get a good paying job so I can buy my own little plane, maybe a luscombe or a super decathlon, that I can fly on my own time for fun.
