Once again, I love the media coverage.
That 20 minutes of burning off fuel sure must of made the difference! Checklist perhaps?

Re: 1/2 mile taxi vis... nobody knows what is going on!
Just reading a route qualification for Phoenix
Airport Operating Minimums
"It is prohibited to commence an approach where the reported visibility is below the minimums for the approach"
I find the FAA's reckless abuse of common sense frightening

Re: Moving to YVR
Dude, give yourself a chance at enjoying YVR living. Don't move to Surrey or Burnaby. If you have wheels I'd suggests Kits, lots going on, close to downtown, beach and relatively close to the airport. If you don't have a car Mount Pleasant is a nice area and you have the Canada Line that takes you r...

Re: voyageur bond (think twice)
If it is true, there has been a change in policy. I was hired in 2005 with a DH8 rating and that was good enough. As it should be. If you already have the rating, then WTF is the 15K for? There is no cost to the company to get you working. Unless Pam Anderson is doing the WHIMS training.

I highly doubt WJ will stop taking, for example, 1900 drivers from CMA. That just wouldn't make any sense considering the number of guys/girls that HAVE worked well coming from that flying background. I've worked for short sighted companies that impose blanket rules based on ill advised sweeping gen...

I think if you've determined that Canada is it for you and your family, and you think scheduled airline flying is what you want long term, then AC, Jazz and Westjet are your best bet. So, what happens when Jazz calls first. Well in terms of money, I'm sure you've figured out by now that Jazz is clea...

I'm sure the trucks were called in case this irregularity became an emergency (i.e going off the end of the runway). As fast as the flapless Vref might be on the RJ, this is what training is for and why a well trained crew would not need to declare an emergency. I could see briefing the FA on an abn...

Sportingrifle, I agree with much of what you have to say. It is rather odd that a pilot group like ACPA would entrust their hiring to the HR psychologists that developed the process interviewies are going through today. And I'm surprised to hear that only 20% of the total hiring pool is getting on. ...

Looking at the latest bid, it seems Dash pilots are needed in YYZ and YUL and RJ in YYC and YVR. However, what is up for grabs on any particular course is only a matter of speculation; you won't know until you get there. I wouldn't worry though, from what I've seen in my short stay thus far people e...

Never say never. "Traditionally" I would agree with you. However, if you look at where, in both Canada and the U.S, populations are growing the fastest, the West is due for some expansion. Maybe not on this upswing of the economy but possibly the next. I'm not talking specifically about Sunwing, but...

It would be nice if ALPA could publish the retirement list. It might still be inaccurate though, given alot of guys don't want to go to 65. I find it interesting that people speak of the 17 year FO out west as though it is some sort of immutable truth that has existed since the beginning of time. i....

Are you kidding? That's why everybody applied there. Okay, I'm sure there are a few exceptions. But look at what's happening. Guarenteed AC interview, Westjet loves ex-Jazz pilots (appearently because most of the people in charge of hiring are ex-Air BC, CRA) and regardless of those two airlines you...
