Re: Low vis procedures-What did these guys do wrong?
Just to throw a little more wood on the pile (hey, I'm bored), I've just done a scour of CARs and AIM.......doesn't really say anything about ATC withholding a clearance. There's a little blurb in RAC 1.7 about a pilot receiving a clearance and if not acceptable, inform ATC. Just playing Devil's avo...

Re: Low vis procedures-What did these guys do wrong?
Why do you always ask pilot intentions, if you interpert something as being wrong the way you write the regs. Dont' issue the clearance, Sorry don't say heres what it is, whats your intentions, with your pen ready. At the risk of sounding like an brainless automaton.......Do you have a dispensation...

Re: Low vis procedures-What did these guys do wrong?
What bothers me is that ATC obviously never adviced the crews that were departing and landing, they just choose to violate them Hang on a second mate......ATC don't write the rules, and certainly don't sit there quivering with anticipation of writing up an AOR. When this new LVOP/RVOP thing came ou...

Re: Any YWG Centre/ARR Controllers in here.. a question for you.
Moving BIRLA (and LOPGO) isn't such a bad idea......unfortunately there's a list of things that are to be changed over the next few months/years for all of Canada that would push it fairly far down the Totem Pole of Importance. As to Arrival passing on a subsequent point to Center, this may sound a ...

Re: Any YWG Centre/ARR Controllers in here.. a question for you.
I can speak from the Arrival point of view. As you know, BIRLA is about 40 miles north of Winnipeg, just outside of Terminal's airspace. We use a gates system into Winnipeg, which separates our inbound/outbound flow, and coming from the northwest (YTH/YNE/YCR) BIRLA dct YWG puts you in the north arr...

Re: Is a class action suit warranted against Nav-Canada?
My point is Nav Canada should do a better job at selecting its trainee. So you went through under the SHL/NCTI system? NATS UK were using SHL around the same time. AirServices Australia were using it as well. There are countless Controllers all over the world who have attained licences having been ...

Re: NavCanada and GPS
The "Free Flight" concept has been banded around for a bit now by the FAA. GPS certainly allows for reduced procedural separation standards, and ADS-B (or whatever the next incarnation it becomes) will aid ATC where current radar technology doesn't provide coverage, but when it comes down to it "gri...

Re: Here come the Lawyers-Air France YYZ
Does anyone know why NavCan is being sued? Is it because they failed to safely land the plane? Or perhaps they didn't advise the crew they were high on approach? :? It's quite normal in Aviation incidents where litigation "damages" are being sought. Name as many parties as possible who may be invol...

Re: If you have thought about ATC, but the no income stopped you
My understanding ( having looked into it before ) is that its just like going to college Sorry mate, but unfortunately it's not, and those who have been to College/Uni and treat it the same are going to find out the hard way. Ab initios I have encountered in the past generally fall into 3 camps. Th...

Re: ATC Experience Tracking and other stuff
While training, days are counted in a "Phase" to track the days a trainee has been training and is measured against a standard. For example at the end of Phase 1 certain skill sets must be displayed/met to a certain level.............Phase 2 introduces more skill sets or a higher standard for those ...

"Report procedure turn outbound?"
I would say crossing the fix/beacon to start outbound........I guess I base this on the requirement to call entering a hold over the fix (and reporting over the fix after completeing the hold entry procedure)

Re: Something I have always wondered
For me (and I'm fairly safe in saying it's the same everybody I work with) I want you to report the turn to the intercept heading (ie, back towards final). Often we will ask "report before turning inbound" as you may have to be extended outbound for a bit. A call established on the inbound course wo...

Re: Cockpit to ACC
If somebody ever came up with a method of recruiting ATC trainees that would ensure a close to perfect check out rate, they would probably make a load of money. Unfortunately, at the moment it doesn't exist. Folk can exhibit an aptitude to the job (spatial reasoning, multi-tasking, being an asshole)...
