The application for ousting the IAM which is the present bargaining agent for AMEs at AC is at the Canadian Industrial Relations Board. What is sought is to break up the present bargaining unit where the Aircraft Maintenance group and other trades are represented within a group that includes Airport...

Done deal, Westjet AMEs are now represented bu AMFA.
The technicians at AC have also filed at the CIRB for representation by AMFA. I'll post results when they become available.

Re: Sunwing
It's a simple supply and demand equation. At the salary airlines are paying, there aren't enough people interested in going into the industry. For similar schooling, (ie elevator technicians, heavy equipment maintenance etc) you can find better salaries, on day shift, more flexibility (no need to wo...

Re: Top Paid AMEs
It's always going to be tough to compare salaries. There are many variables to take into consideration: -ESOP (employee share ownership plan) is usually voluntary and differs from company to company -retirement plans are different at all the carriers -Premiums throw distortion in the wage equation -...

Re: Top Paid AMEs
I don't have access to pay scales for Air Transat, Bombardier or Westjet but would imagine they are all in the same ballpark +/- 10 G
From what I heard Bombardier and Westjet are paying more than AC.

Re: Top Paid AMEs
It's hard to give an hourly wage... most pay structures are not very linear that way. At AC: 2018 top wage for LAT 5 : 41.23$/hour Premiums Tank Sealer: 150$/month Trainer: 150$/month Endorsement premium: 450$/month for employees who hold between 1 and 4 endorsements Supplemental endorsement premium...

Re: 20th Century power
One thing to consider is that an aircraft engine is designed to make its max horsepower until overhaul reliably, you car is on average running at what? 1/3 to 1/2 hp? Try running any car let alone a high compression turbo engine at full throttle for 2000 hours and see how long it lasts then. A hori...

Re: Cozy Mk IV
I flew a Cozy mkIV a few years ago. It's an interesting aircraft. Quite fast for 180hp (fixed pitch in this case). I also did some work it (I am an AME). If you look on the market, there are many non completed kits... Resale value also appears to be quite low... might be better to buy one already fl...

Re: Contract AME rates....
Wage at the top of the payscale for AC, Westjet, Bombardier or Transat full time employees is roughly at 45-50$/hour (if premiums are calculated in the hourly wage. You would think that a contract wage where no benefits or vacation are paid out would pay out approx 15 to 20% more. Yet for some reaso...

Re: The sweet smell of desperation...
Sky Regional just upped their wages... I don't have exact numbers but they had to in order to stop the hemorrhage of employees. I heard the YUL hangar had a wall with all the safety vests hung up with names of the employees that left when recruited by AC. Even Georgian seems to have increased their ...

Re: AC looking for AME's
Air Canada isn't valuing B737NG technicians specifically, they will favour technicians with a pertinent ACA. The B737NG endorsement is a close second. The conversion from NG to MAX is two weeks of training. Boeing merely re-engined the Model T so differences are covered quickly. The B737NG endorsed ...

Re: AC looking for AME's
Do guys working at AC have the option of working any OT? or is what we see here basically what they can expect to make? Wouldn't be easy living somewhere like YVR on these wages with a family ect. Yes OT can be worked. It's not unlimited but it is available. You're right about the cost of living in...

Re: AC looking for AME's
Pat, Most companies will not start you out at top wage. You might get top of the salary scale at small outfits, but it's normal for an airline to start you where your value to them lies. At AC, if you arrive at the company with pertinent endorsements, ( for example A320 and B767)you might be able to...
