Re: AC A320 slides off runway at YYZ
I was involved once in an aviation accident investigation. I wasn't in the airplane but had to answer several questions pertaining to the flight. I knew, and the investigator knew what had happened. But the report said something completely different and bogus. I was informed by this investigator, t...

Re: DC-8
Good info posted here, brought back memories. Accident occurred at Ottawa, training flight out of UL, DC-8-54F CF-TJM, AC Fin # 813. Instructor was Robinson, students Orr & Hemming were both prop captains upgrading to the jet. Two engine out approaches were part of the syllabus and simulator was uns...

Re: Ice Pilots Back
I have a question for any Electra drivers. Watched the episode where the fellow was checking out as F/E and noted that he seemed to handle the thrust levers pretty much throughout the flight including a bumpy approach to a fairly short strip. I know that some military ops have the F/E doing that (Ar...

Re: FP60 update Federal Court of Appeals
My timeline: Started at AC, age 25, told quite clearly that retirement was mandatory at 60. Flew for 35 years, rose up the seniority list as those ahead retired at 60, left medically, or took early retirement (a very small minority BTW). Retired at 60 as per my "contract" as detailed at joining. All...

Noting OceansEdge's logo I am reminded of the old saying - "We haven't lost a dispatcher in an accident yet"
it's easy to judge from behind a desk.

Leading Edge, you ought to do some basic research before you begin to rant. You obviously know little or nothing about the history of the AO lawsuit. And then you insult those of us who are happily retired and thankful for the great career that we had. Signed up to go at 60, went at 60; I look upon ...

Very well put Iain. The problem has always been that those selected to "manage" are often those incapable of "leading".Most airlines are over-managed and under-led.

Re: The Boeing Dreamliner delivery is delayed again.
I have been less than enthusiastic about this airplane ever since I read of its overwhelming dependence on electricity. The one thing I never trusted in airplanes was electrically powered systems - hydraulics and air driven pumps gave a welcome alternative and back-up, Douglas even used cables to op...

Re: Snow-covered flaps before takeoff
A lot of thread drift here but to return to the original post, I think that all jets are de-iced with the flaps up so how did snow get inside the structure? I suppose it could be driven in by high wind but it could also have been there when the flaps were retracted. In my mob we were not to retract ...

Re: I just don't get it..some explain?
Spot on complexintentions, best post yet. The DC-8 was a nice airplane but its lack of speedbrakes was a real pain. Descending into any busy terminal area, especially in the U.S. was a challenge because virtually every other jet had speebrakes and ATC wanted you to follow their profile, the only rec...

Re: B747 Raises RVR
While it's nice to think that the 747 crew purposely did the 1900 guys a favour, they may have had to do a static runup to shed any possible ice from the fan blades. That's not an uncommon procedure on those engines.
