Quick drain oil valve

You guys know of a special method to drain the oil out of a continental engine on a Cessna 180 Without removing the cowling and not make a mess? It has a quick drain valve.

Re: Degrees of flap of landing on floats

Thanks folks

All very helpful.

The Tazin river is my old moose hunting area when I used to live in Ft Smith.
I moved back to Yellowknife in 2005 and no longer fly in that area but it is still one of my favorite hunting spot.

compression check in the 60's

First compression check after the plane sat all winter (7 months) without running and looks like a couple cylinders read in the mid-60's. Cause for concern? Friend of mine engineer said it is not unusual after sitting so long and said to take the plane up and run it hard for a while and do another c...

float plane mooring ropes

Hello there

How long should the rear rope on the floats be on a Cessna 180? The rope that stay attached to the bottom of rear float strut in flight? Just short of the water rudder?

Globalstar sat phone

Thinking of getting a portable sat phone. I am familiar with the Iradium and like its dependability but they are expensive!

Is the Globalstar sat phone reliable in northern Canada? Say between the 60th and the 70th parallel?

Thanks

Re: closing a vfr flight plan

Thanks Folks I do have the Garmin In Reach as well and had to contact a friend of mine to close my flight plan once last summer because my sat phone was not connecting. Ditto on using the RCO before landing....not comfortable with that option.... Normally, I do flight plan mostly via a flight itiner...

closing a vfr flight plan

Hello there

Is there any way to close a flight plan in remote area (no cell phone connections) if you don't have a sat phone? In Canada....

Can a Garmin InReach be used to close a vfr flight plan?

Anything else?

Need new battery in the Cessna 180

The old one is 6 years old and getting tired (concorde AXC 35) but has been very reliable. Wondering if there is something else out there just as good but lighter and perhaps a bit less expensive? :-)

Thanks

Re: Digital Artificial Horizon

If I wanted to get rid of the vacuum pump, DG and AH altogether, would I need to get two Garmin G5 units (one showing AH and one used as DG) or is one enough toggling back and forth as needed?

On our Cessna 180....any outfit you would recommend in the Edmonton or Calgary area?

What is the average cost of the 10 years inspection if no snags encountered?
