From Globe & Mail: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/nunavut-town-reeling-after-plane-crash-kills-12/article2136238/ Resolute resident Doreen McDonald said she was listening to music when her husband heard a large explosion. Corpac / Corporate Express - Cessation of Operations

Corpac's financial difficulties have hardly been a secret the last few months, but I heard today that they laid off all staff and are hoping for an investor? Sorry to hear about this for all the Corpac people affected if it has indeed come to this. Hopefully there really is an investor lined up and ...

Charging for ancilliary services is doubtless a great way to build extra revenue, and Ryanair has taken this to the level where they make as much, if not more, from 'ancilliary revenue' than from the fares. GBP5 fares don't pay the cost to fly the passenger, and with headline grabbing fares like thi...

I find it difficult to believe WJ will be in top 15 as a Canadian carrier unless they diversify into sub-airlines like Virgin with VS Australia, soon to be VS America etc. Unless they wipe out AC altogether, I don't see how there can be not one, but two major international carriers both flying prima...

So the FO really earned his pay that day, even though it was lower than the new-hire attendant in the back. I doubt it. Continental new hire F/A wages are $18 / block hour, and with the new contract equating to almost 2 duty hours for every block hour, that equates to about $9 an hour. If you're ba...

Did Quikair re-acquire their aircraft then? They shut some of their offices/facilities which would indicate that it's more than just a temporary blip and lack of aircraft? There's still nothing on their website, and they're still accepting bookings... So either they are accepting bookings that they ...

I don't think there was bag run work - but I had heard that the airframes were Airco machines. I know they used to be Bar XH but they apparently changed some stuff around a while back. I wasn't being facetious about the staff - I was hoping that everyone was ok as in didn't (won't) get shafted and w...

Quikair Bankruptcy?

Word on the field is that Quikair has suspended ops and filed for bankruptcy today. Also rumours that their aircraft were all taken back by Airco?

Hope all is well for the pilots and staff...?

As has already been illustrated in the points above, most airlines practice some form of overbooking. Outside of the airline industry, this is also practiced by both major car rental companies, and hotels. Anywhere which has a 'perishable' product such as a car, hotel room, or airplane seat that wil...

Quikair suspended into Penticton by TC?

Quikair states that it has 'voluntarily' suspended service into Penticton due to a Transport issue. In a press article, it stated that they had 'not written down' certain procedures that were unique to Penticton, but that passengers were at no time in danger, however Transport is quoted as stating t...

Jazz pilot makes PA: questions safety of WJ pilots

apologies if the subject line is not 100% descriptive/appropriate, but I couldn't figure out how to word this. Basically, a Jazz pilot allegedly made a PA to passengers about why a 'Western Based Carrier' took off when they were grounded due to fog. In it, he questions the safety decisions made by t...

It is frustrating indeed. The ads lower the value in the public perception of the cost an air ticket to unrealistic levels. What is more frustrating, is that the perpetrator, in this instance Sunwing, isn't even offering the deals it touts. "Sale on ALL June departures". Try and find a $29 ticket (+...

Jaques - spot on.

A more accurate way to represent passenger complaints would be on the basis of complaints per 1000 passengers flown or some such ratio. That would be much more representative.

Jeopardizing some 100 jobs for hurt feelings..... well, all I can say is grow up people. I suspect that's part of the problem - those 100 jobs. 2 x 37 seat Dash 8's, neither of which are at optimum block hour utilisation... if there are a 100 jobs, one might want to look at that overhead.
