Re: Throw in the towel..yes? No?
I think everyone should look at a career in aviation like a career in music. If you have to ask yourself "Should I do this?", then you shouldn't be doing it. You really should only get into this business if you can't picture yourself doing anything else. And like the music business, although there a...

Re: Flying in Africa / Voyageur Airways
Wouldn't they send the medivac guys over to Africa, or does nobody want to go?
Which would then make Beach 200's post about overseas ops

Re: Pet peeves / lack of airmanship
This will probably piss off 99% of the people on this forum, because nearly everyone seems to do it, but...... Where did the practice of saying "And" before every radio call come from? ".....And..ABC is ready for departure runway 32". "...And...ABC with x-ray requesting clearance to Ottawa..." Actua...

VFR pay
Just wondering about what everyone's thoughts are on the highest paying VFR (or possibly a mix of VFR/IFR) jobs out there (Canada or international).

Re: ANR... good or bad???
Hmmm...not sure which kit you had, but I've used mine in all kinds of radials and twin-turbines, and they worked excellently. I even compared it with the co-pilot's Bose and couldn't tell any difference. You're right though, when the battery dies, the passive noise protection is pretty bad. Better t...

Re: ANR... good or bad???
Perhaps I'll eat my hat one day, but.... The idea that ANR could do more harm than good seems like an old wives (pilots) tale that has gotten out of hand. The reason you start to lose hearing is because your eardrum or the hair-like cilia in the inner ear stop working, either from excessively loud, ...

I highly recommend the Sennheiser HMEC-25. Super-quiet and light.

Re: David Clark H10-13.4 ANC upgrade
If it still takes one 9-volt battery, then probably about 20-25 hours. I just have two rechargeables (one spare in my pocket) and it lasts about 10-15 hours in the Twin Otter.

Re: David Clark H10-13.4 ANC upgrade
I bought the upgrade for my H10-40s 8 years ago, and they still work great. I've tried them alongside co-workers' Bose and David Clarks, and the Headset Inc. sounds at least as good, if not better. The only minor complaints I can see someone having is that they add a little weight to your headset an...

Re: Is the music stopping?
Might as well weigh in....(sigh)..... As far as responding to the original post, I don't think the music will stop in Canada for a little while yet, but it would probably be best to pick a seat now and get as far up the list as you can, while you can. The Canadian slowdown will probably be a year or...

Interviewed near the middle of June, still no answer. Called up the recruitment lady who contacted me for the interview and asked if there was any word yet. She told me that "it's summertime, things are working slowly, give it two more weeks", and that "I can't access your file". Since the interview...

To bugspray, Cat Driver (as usual) twotter, and others I may be forgetting... Thanks for the voice of reason. I must be an unnaturally gifted pilot (no...I don't actually think that, I'm just being sarcastic), but what is the debate here? In many, MANY hours in the Beaver, I have never, EVER felt un...

What ever happened to those great posts about Cargojet going bankrupt around a year ago? As soon as the next quarterly report came out, suddenly it was eerily quiet in here. Has anyone seen the latest annual report? Looks pretty good. It sure doesn't take much to get people wound up. The minute you ...

I know it's all in the timing (when you end up finishing your training) and you should take your first job whenever and wherever it comes along, but I think it's almost better if you get that first job in the midst of a dark cycle. Then you can put in some decent time and when the good times arrive ...

Good God, The debates on this forum never cease to amaze me. Most people need to realize that flying an airplane really isn't brain surgery. You'd have to be trolling to call the flying on that video anywhere close to dangerous. If you're not completely drunk, brain-dead or totally incompetent, anyo...

Decent company, it's come a long way in the last five years (especially maintenance). It's true, most of the entry-level positions go to Maldivians with a fresh FAA license, but every now and then they need someone and no Maldivians are to be found. Until recently, there was a hard and fast rule abo...

It's probably already been said (even in this thread), but there really is no "best" way to go. It all depends on your future goal, and how you want to get there. I you want to fly a big jet someday, instructing will get you there, maybe even a little sooner than flying in the bush. Just what enjoym...

By the way, for what it's worth, I just noticed on the TSX website that Mr. Virmani bought another $800,000 worth of Cargojet stock for the family trust. I would take this to be a good sign. At least he's not headed for South America with a suitcase full of cash. It's also nice that he owns a decent...

Cash on hand would be nice, but the quarterly numbers are only a snapshot of the situation on that day. Their accounts receivables/payables seem to be in much better order, so hopefully it is (as the management discussion seems to imply) just a matter of payment timing. You really can't compare this...
