Raymond,

That is a very eloquent response. But, speaking hypothetically, if I was sitting next to you, you would not enoy the 'Brakes Off' part. And nor would I.

Look at the lowest paid jobs in the airline industry. By the time you get there, they will be the highest paid. The race to the bottom is setting new lows each morning.

With wages guarenteed to be 20% less than the competitions, this is a mathematically-assured race to the bottom.

Thanks guys.

SilentMajority

- Qantas pilots have no scope - they had trust.
- AC pilots have scope - they have no trust.

I think if AC thought they could have an LCC without AC piltots it would already be flying. Are you sure you're in the majority?

Re: In you opinion, is it all worth it? Piloting?

From an investment/return point of view - not worth it. If you wish to live in Toronto or Vancouver - forget it. If you wish to be a family man - big challenge. If you want to be wealthy - those days are gone.

If you love flying... I guess you're already screwed.

Sorry.

Re: 757 for Hawaii?

aviator2010 - that's a first yr Captain's wage. ((91 x 70) x 12)

To be fair, a 12 yr captain is at $138/hr or $115,920. These numbers from June 15, 2009.

They have a 6% 401K top-up. Regardless... pretty inexpensive.

Re: 757 for Hawaii?

This will be an amazing thread to look back at in 5 years! - Will the WestJet flights have the American flag on the tail? - Will a WestJet Captain fly a 757 for $76,400.00? If not, will the company pay more to use a WJA crew to maintain the good relationship they presently enjoy? ($91/hr x 70 hr mnt...

PS-90A - Relax...

Not everyone has a maintenance manual for a TU-154M on their coffee table. Nor should they. Clearly the aircraft lacked the required degree of redundancy on this day, as proven by the video above.

How do the wages at Jazz on the 757 compare to the wages at Skyservice? How do the wages at Jazz on the RJ compare to what they were at Air Canada? How much did Jazz offer to fly the Embraer for relative to what Air Canada flies them for? Does anyone have this data? These answers would be more usefu...

Do they have current IFR's and medicals? Will they be required to re-write an IFR exam if they've been unqualified for greater than a certain period? (48 months rings a bell.)

Just curious.

That only means that the mere 'threat' of a strike will produce significant consequences, be they positive or negative. Back to work legislation could be one of them, however, that's a sticky place for the government to be on a federal level with the largest employer in the country. I think they'd p...

Domestic flying for overseas wages. Being paid more than any Captain on your equipment and making 5 times more than some of your colleagues. Writing your own schedule. Didn't someone say this wasn't about fairness?

I once heard a US Carrier flat out refuse a clearance for the 24's, and request 33 L/R, due to the 20 kt cross wind. The controller offered him a clearance to his alternate, and that was the end of it.

There are little things we can all do: - Never say you're going flying - say you're going to work. - If asked if you like your job, tell them you love flying, but you hate the industry and it's proven to be a bad investment in the long run. - Don't suggest others pursue flying, even an enthusiastic ...
