Re: WestJet is in trouble. Is becoming more like Air Canada the fix?
You know what, I'm not familiar with this "grey day" issue and can't argue to the validity of your claim. I'm sure WJ is pressing hard on contractual language, but so does ALPA. It's part of our new relationship, but not something you should worry about, nor a hill you should die on - your dues are ...

Re: SWOOP - A New Hires Future
Alpha, As in other airlines - seniority rules. After that - you need to meet standard. I prefer it when my 8+ year 737 FOs upgrade because they exceed standard. I never said to honour seniority at the expense of a standard. You have to be able to do the job. When you join an airline you go to the b...

Re: WestJet is in trouble. Is becoming more like Air Canada the fix?
I think when you have the CEO who led the unionization of Westjet keep saying, he doesn't understand why the employee group unionized, pretty much sums up the issues at play at Westjet, and just how out of touch management has become with its labour groups. And given some of the antics employed by ...

Re: SWOOP - A New Hires Future
Coupled with the apparent hypocrisy of WJ/Encore pilots being absolved of "lowering the bar," makes for one messy and convoluted double standard.

Re: SWOOP - A New Hires Future
Alpha Male, We've never needed the OTS guys at Swoop. We need a fair wage for a fair day's work on a 37. As far as the original OTS guys at Swoop went - they were hardly cream of the crop. Some serious problems with hands and feet. Scary stuff. JJJ Ok, but here lies the hypocrisy in that - why is i...

Re: SWOOP - A New Hires Future
WJ management WILL NOT upgrade an Encore FO onto a 737. NEVER. WON'T HAPPEN. Ever. Get that sh!t through your head today. It'll make life so much easier. It's not brain science. If they are qualified, why not? Ahhhh, ALPA Male, don't know if you saw the last PSB (last week) for Swoop but 5 Encore F...

Re: SWOOP - A New Hires Future
If they are qualified, why not? 1500 hours and an ATPL makes you "qualified"? Sorry, you're not qualified. Give your head a shake. It's that kind of arrogance and entitlement that led me to say, "you're f*cking this airline into the ground". Saving face and honouring "seniority" comes before any se...

Re: SWOOP - A New Hires Future
Good luck to the training department dealing with that. When people ask my opinion of booking on Swoop, I'll make sure to mention the experience level of their crews. Yes, Donald! But make sure you tell them that it didn't go OTS. That's important. Winning. Positions should only be filled OTS if no...

Re: SWOOP - A New Hires Future
Well, thank goodness the MEC spent all that negotiating capital on getting rid of those OTS pilots. Cause things seem pretty awesome over there at swoop. But hey, at least we put guys like tbaylx in their place. Right? Totally worth it! Now we can watch the left seat at swoop go to junior encore FO...

According to the new CBA, Swoop pilots are subject to a 24-month position freeze. No one was denied anything. Those three early releases had to be negotiated, like everything now.

Re: New Arbitrated Contract
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HSFV9WL How is this survey supposed to help? I know that no one is happy with this agreement, but this would have been a binding and final Award, and I cannot believe Kaplan would have made a gross error that subjected the Award to Judicial Review. And how exactly is ...

Re: New Arbitrated Contract
Alpa Male / CAAC / etc. I think you can consider this a "Victory Neutral" contract for you. With yesterday's contract announcement, you: - WON on your prediction of disappointment with an ALPA-delivered product; but, - LOST on your (admit it - a tad long winded!) prediction of the end of the One Li...

Re: New Arbitrated Contract
Oh, the irony! I'm sitting here recalling all the conversations that I've had over the past few years, with all 20-something-year-olds FO's, "educating" me on proper WAWCON and what ALPA was going to deliver. Telling me that we're on course for a 40% pay hike and lots of goodies. Pulling up their "b...

Re: Westjet...the cheap.....
Just heard that Westjet pilots are pissed after the latest deal. 2% pay raise only, their sick days were unlimited, but not anymore and may be limited, and heard about reserve being a real thing there. Swoop is also allowed 30 planes now...? What kind of backwards step is this? Some kind of deal th...

Re: Statutory Duty of Fair Representation: LOU (One List)
Now, back to the topic at hand; when can we expect ratification of the "one list" LOU? It's been well over a month since the MEC announced this big "victory". How much time does it take to approve an LOU? Shoot, the WJPA would rubber stamp LOU's like Homer Simpson's typing bird... https://i.imgur.co...

Oh yes! I'm a big fan of Dr. Peterson as well, and he's a good ol' Alberta boy to boot.
His latest book, 12 rules for life, is amazing. A must read!
