Re: Regional Career

I’m 34 years old. I decided to spend my career as a regional pilot. The seniority that I would give up by going to a mainline carrier is not worth the extra money in my bank account. That extra money is basically just used to live in the expensive cities where mainline airlines are based. I have no...

Re: Acceptable proof of hours for TC rating.

I had a similar problem. TC didn’t accept any printouts. I had to put the hours in a traditional logbook to be able to finish my conversion.

Re: Oopsy poopsy

I have some experience with ATRs. 72 can be very unfriendly to land sometimes.
Easy to have a bad weight and balance and also the pax door is in the back. Passengers tend to stay or to move to the back to stay close to the exit door.

Re: Pilot in waiting working the ramp?

I was offered a pilot in waiting position where I would be working the ramp in a remote northern Ontario community with the expectation that this would lead to a first officer position within 6 months. I am not sure if I should accept this offer. I have 600 hours total flight time. I am currently a...

As far as I know they expire after 2 years. Good thing is they are free to write and being a pilot you will just need a quick refreshment before writing them.

I applied for both Encore and Jazz and haven't heard back yet. I have ATPL +5000TT, 2500 PIC flown abroad. Everything is converted and ready to go here. I meet all the requirements and I applied for FO and nothing so far. My last commercial flight was in 2016. Flew here few hours to get the license ...

Re: What do you do when you think someone should never fly again?

Discuss the situation with a chief pilot. I'm sure you aren't the only one who's raised issue. The chief pilot can put them back into line indoc, training, any number of options. They just need to know first. I had this situation in the past flying a 705 turbo-prop abroad. The FO was really below a...

Re: ATPL EXAM WITH TYPE RATING A330

Yes, I converted my licence here in Canada and it is possible to do the "skill requirements" in a Sim level C or D. For me, renting a seminole for $390/hour was the choice that fitted on my budget. About the books, I recommend the aerocourse ATPL for Saron and Samra and the aerocourse IFR for the In...

How can a company expect you to take a job where you don't find out your base until after the first day of training. That is sketch. You know the bases before you even apply and you know there's a risk of not getting what you want. Don't apply if that's sketch. That's a question they ask in the int...

I've been down that road. 7 years dealing with 6 days pairings, commuting, few days off... on a shine glass cockpit, left seat, last generation big turboprop. Good seniority number on a growing company with embraers, A320 and A330. But my marriage was sinking... a divorce was more than likely. Despi...

Perimeter salaries as for JUN/2019 are: YWG FO metro starts at 29.5k Was that posted with pride or sarcasm? None. Just passing along information. But I agree, it's shit pay for start. But, you also need to take in consideration that they hire 250 hrs pilots and progression is really fast. You don't...
