Re: Midair at DCA
Nothing wrong with ATC‘s actions and execution here, from one who knows. Routing en route aircraft at glideslope height within the last mile of approach to a runway is an insane airspace structure approach though. What's the minimum required distance if an aircraft says they'll maintain visual sepa...

Re: Learjet 55 hits mall.
So they haven’t yet revealed which part of the airplane fell off upon takeoff according to that report. Nothing fell off of it. Most likely spatial disorientation. Don't roll your eyes at me as though you know something I don't, you arrogant toad. I'm quoting officials who were on scene and ...

Re: Steinbach midair
...I'd like to know the AC involved, is there any way to find out? This clip from CBC (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEVOcEi_-lo) showed two static photos of aircraft, C-172 C-GZKA and C-152 C-FIYL. I don't believe the clip specifically says "These were the aircraft involved", although the photos...

Canada to ban U.S. military overflights?
Heard from a well-placed source at work that NAV Canada is considering banning polar overflights of U.S. military flights as a response to the tariffs.
Why stop there? Cut off their commercial carriers too. That’ll get Trump’s attention.

Re: Learjet 55 hits mall.
What part of the airplane would you suggest would have found itself in a remote location that would lead to the kind of pitch control issues we are seeing on that video?

Re: Learjet 55 hits mall.
City commissioner says “something happened to the airplane at a location remote to the impact”. Dash cam footage shows the plane coming down at about an 80° angle. Seems pretty clear to me that the tail departed the airplane shortly after takeoff.

Re: Does this situation really require the emergency equipment
Unless there is a clear and imminent threat to the airplane, there is no reason to advise ATC of annunciators or the state of equipment on the airplane. Most controllers aren't pilots, and certainly those who are likely have no idea of the significance of a specific condition unless they're checked ...

Yes, you should give up. The PPL does not require a high standard and if you are having trouble meeting it, you are not meant to fly.

Controlling > Piloting
Hence pilots laid off but controllers not.
Easy to train a pilot. Very difficult to successfully train a controller.

Re: ATC application/background check
ATC requires a Secret-level security clearance, with a fingerprint check in Canada (and the U.S., if you've ever resided there), and a 10-yr history of where you have lived.
Not sure what associations are checked as part of the Secret level clearance.

Re: Kobe Bryant chopper crash
This whole thing would have been avoided if he hadn't been trying to fly visually while in IMC. Any pilot knows that trying to transition back and forth from visual to instruments at low level is asking for disaster. As demonstrated here.

Re: Encore wrinkles a Dash-8
I wonder if ground workers would walk to their car in the parking lot at the end of their shift and go home or stay inside where it's safe if there's thunderstorms in the area. Really? Are you aware that during a red alert , ramp personnel are not allowed to be on the ramp? I wouldn’t be walking ar...

Huh - I guess my 20+ years dont count for much then - It is pretty cut and dry. I never siad there wasn't a problem that needed attention, just that it doesn't warrent a fleet wide grounding. I can think of many other deadly incidents that never resulted in a grounding. I guess the world's aviation...

Re: Navcanada discontinuing approaches at under-serviced airports
Are the provincial medevac authorities being squeezed for money by NavCanada? How can Nav Canada "squeeze" anyone for money. The whole organization runs on user fees. By act of parliament they can't make a profit. All they are capable of doing is determining where the money goes (and doesn't go any...
