Re: New CPA and flowthrough to Air Canada?
DW, Nice try for the bait. Rumor has it that AC needs between 35-50 pilots for the two ground schools in March. That would put the total number of Jazz pilots between 28-40. Which is better than the Encore/WJ flow. By the way how many pilots have left Encore to fill the openings at WJ? Cheers, Flye...

Re: New CPA and flowthrough to Air Canada?
If I understand correctly all Aircanada is offering is 80% of the interview space to Express (not only Jazz) pilots in order of date of hire. No promise regarding the ratio of Express pilots actually in the groundschool and bottom of the list. I wouldn't call this flow, as there is no guarantee of a...

Re: Encore gets one list and a new pay scale.
There's been about 150 new hires at mainline over the last 24 months. Encore now has about 130 pilots. With a minimum flow of 25% to mainline the newest Encore pilot on the list right now will need to see mainline hire another 520 pilots before he or she flows over. With roughly 75 pilots hired at ...

Re: Going to fly/work in Austrailia?
I'm curious, how easy is it for a plain-vanilla Canadian (with no ties whatsoever to Australia) to get the legal permission to work there as a pilot? Use a pass, go talk to an operator and find out. Work visas are available but it must be company sponsored. Keep in mind we are not talking Sydney or...

I know of at least one person who got their start in Oz here http://careflight.org/careers1/aviation_careers1/careers_pilot_fixed_wing/. They were based in Darwin, think YK of Australia with Crocs and jellyfish vs Cold and polar bears. Best adventure ever! Not advocating for the company as I have ne...

Re: A Boeing 777 Has Crash-Landed At San Francisco Internati
When we get away from the infighting here between anonymous posters we are left with some known facts. A modern well equipped jet airliner was allowed to land short of a runway that was visible from at least ten miles on a clear day with no significant wind factor. And not only was it landed short ...

An instrument rating does not give you the skills to prevent CFIT, you need further training? Or is Ornge dispatching pilots into conditions that require an instrument rating and they do not have valid IFR ratings? Cat I respect who you are and what you have done but why do you treat people like th...

Beef, It has been done cheaper by private companies elsewhere in the world while providing a better more reliable service. If it were cheaper for the Dutch government to continue using P3's in the Netherland antilles they would not have switched to PAL's Dash 8's. Same for Iceland, Australia, the UK...

Wow All I can say is wow. There is so much wrong here it is frightening. The military is the right service to get the job done, just give them the tools and get the politics out of the way. Re: The Fixed Wing Search and Rescue Saga Continues....
If the aircraft is only tasked with SAR and the aft ramp is no longer mandatory what do you airforce folks think of using the Dash 8-400? I'm sure the aft ramp is easier to jump from however I read that they can install wind shields for the side exits and floor hatches to airdrop larger items. Not ...

Re: The Fixed Wing Search and Rescue Saga Continues....
And, most importantly, how do we fix it? Transfer the responsibility of SAR to the private sector and have a competetive bidding process. One could even have a separate fixed wing operator and a rotory operator. We would have had a solution to these problems (no arctic coverage, limited bases etc.)...

Re: Airline who allows you to fly manually???
Hi all, Sounds like a SHOULD vs SHALL arguement, which any competent pilot SHOULD know the difference between however it is not a legal requirement that they SHALL. In short: one will give you a letter and a fine, the other will give you a dirty look and possibly a stern talking to. Now if your SOP'...

There is no such thing as a "co-captain". It's a non-sequitur . Actually, there is such a thing, and the term is not all that uncommon.. Agree with Trey, The term co-captain is quite common, what you are referring to is pilot in command (PIC) and pilot monitoring (PM) or pilot non flying (PNF). Nor...

Canada is still the second largest country in the world with most of it being uninhabited and with the most bru...

Re: Finally New SAR Planes ... again
Q400's are a fine Canadian product, but useless for SAR. They not only lack the cabin shape to manage a SAR type kit load, they have no rear ramp. The ramp is an absolute must. I believe their range/endurance is also not intended to depart Trenton, fly to Iqaluit, loiter on scene for 5 hours, drop ...
