Exactly.

It's the international growth (787's) of WJ that's probably going to take a hit for a couple of years. The low cost part is probably going to see good growth figures.
As long as there is cargo to move around the globe I'd rather think the 737 will take the hit.

Re: WestJet Group Hiring Freeze

They can cut pretty much 10-15% of bottom of the list with no immediate training required because the majority are FO. And since they will probably be cutting routes and lower the number of flights for let say the yyz-yul turn and probably others « business routes » nobody will see any difference. O...

Re: WestJet Group Hiring Freeze

AC had $5.889b in cash, cash equivalents and short term investments at Dec 31 2019. At an average run rate of $47.893m a day, that's 123 days of cash available. WS had an average run rate of $13m a day with cash of about $1.6b, or coincidentally, 123 days of cash available. Both may have credit fac...

The only possible alternative to massive layoffs is job sharing combined with pay cuts. This is no a drill.
AKA temporary part time job.
I guess more people could get through this situation with a part time schedule than being laid off.

Is this timeline applicable to DEC as well?
Yes but it will most likely be a 3-6 months in right seat so you will have an initial course unless you already have a Q400 PPC.

Re: 2020 Hiring

Yes, would be nice to have everything indexed. Onex - doesnt care. Its obvious. They have communicated zero to us. Westjet mgmt still runs the show and following the strategic plan for WB growth. Well, I guess if they want to grow and become the so wanted Global Airline they will need to retain pil...

Re: 2020 Hiring

I understand your POV, but a couple of your statements are false. There is incentive- REIP $14,400/year for 2 years if you flow to Westjet. Also - you accrue senirorty on the list, not YOS, but senoeiry ahead of any OTS hires. If you work at Jazz those two incentives dont exist. Also- the union is ...

Any information on Feb or Mar GS?
Today one GS started.
You can expect one GS every 2 weeks indefinitely.
They wil give you around 5-6 weeks notice either to be pooled or directly offered a GS.

Re: Hiring process - next steps

The way they use the pool is different from jazz. Once the pool is full they will remove the ad and give Gs to the people waiting. As soon as the pool is empty or they gave everyone a date they will open another ad for the next pool. This is why when you are pooled it is written : “pooled for the ne...

Re: One List

So what do you propose? There’s going to be 2 class a month for Encore beginning January, I think they are hiring as much as they can. Maybe the best way to address this would be to close Encore and merge the pilots to mainline, with a common FO pay and a 20% raise for Q captain. What would be the c...

Nice to know, thank you for the heads up.
Do you have any numbers for Encore ? Hire expectation, transfer from YYZ to YYC, upgrade time and flow for 2020?

Again thank you for taking the time!

Re: One List

Air Canada and all other major airlines have no flow Yes they have, Jazz and AC has a 90% agreement. Delta has one with Endeavor. United has one with Commutair/ExpressJet. However I agree Sunwing or Air Transat doesn't have any, but you need at least 2000hrs to apply. What do you mean by "better ca...

The only difference between the pay rate is the minimum guaranteed. I guess ALPA would make it work... Does swoop have a 12 year pay scale topping out over 200k? Honest question as I don’t know if things have changed there. I am assuming Swoop skipper will either flow to mainline or the pay scale w...

Re: Sunwing hires Swoop

Think like an investor. AC has now his "vacations branch" with Transat Westjet as the second largest airline company in Canada needs to have its own branch otherwise they will lose the market. One way or the other I think Swoop will be the new Sunwing. The only difference between the pay rate is the...

Re: Applying with ATPL pending

WJ will be facing a backlash if they actually do hire a 1500 TT applicant when there are 4000-6000+ hour DHC8-400 Captains waiting to flow which has been postponed (for the record, personally I'm not in a hurry to flow and am very content in my current position for multiple reasons related and unre...

I wonder if the plan is to buy/move some Q400s to Pacific Coastal? https://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/canada-approves-pacific-coastal-to-serve-us-as-westj-460936/ PasCo just bought some Q classics... but that's separate from WEN. Re: What can a Q4 experienced DEC earn at Encore?

As a DEC I wouldn't bother coming to Encore. You will be working a lot more than anywhere else, pay isn't that great (I know 1000h King Air FOs making more), The FO level is dropping very quickly, no flow to mainline as of now, no One list, 50% of your pairings end with an extension... Jazz, Porter...

I’m still anxious that the corp will find a loophole to wriggle out of YOS. How would they find a loophole? Wasn’t it part of the contract? We have a few items that are written clear as day that the Corp simply ignores or reads differently. Somebody at the crystal palace has decided to quite simply...

Re: Updates on one - list.

So as of now what is the situation of the One List? Dead or alive?
As new hire what should we expect? Can we plan to hang our hat at Westjet with an evolution from Encore to Mainline or would it be wiser to wait and see what will ONEX do with Encore vs Mainline?
