Re: Canada Jetlines
With the seniority system in place in most airlines, high time jet captains who lost their jobs dues to the failure of the airline they were working for are often doomed to either finding work overseas or accepting a right seat at another airline at the bottom of the pay scale, often at one third o...

Re: Information Sessions - College of Pilots of Canada
Why don't you all just show up at the info meetings, ask your questions and hopefully get your answers there…support what these guys are trying to put together! I do!

Re: Duty free purchases in uniform?
Slightly off topic here but I remember a vacation in a Dominican resort a few years back. I was at the lobby bar and noted the arrival of a Russian crew in full Uniform take over half the bar for a few beers. Probably normal in Russia but I got a chuckle nonetheless. i saw it in Cancun as well...th...

Re: Duty free purchases in uniform?
Unfortunately, for some strange reason..we can no longer buy duty free in Cancun from the airport...The authorities won't allow it..go figure!! As airline crew, they probably lost their best customers...

Re: Whats the deal with the 2 Sunwing job postings???
It is a move in the right direction... 32 guys upgraded initially as seasonal, now being told permanent... 15 seasonal FO's given full status and a seniority number... 50 to 55 new canadians being hired....excellent! I don't see any reason for complaints...everything takes time, especially in aviati...

Re: Sunwing labour negotiations
Does anybody have any updates on the ongoing labour negotiations at Sunwing. Have the pilot or FA unions set strike dates yet? If so when do they plan to strike? They won't strike, although they should! Management will keep delaying the process and stringing them along until they have to agree to s...

Re: Foreign Pilots: expect this in the near future
ALPA? Take a look at the latest Air Line Pilot magazine published by ALPA, Jan. 2013 It specifically names Sunwing as a source of it's troubles, however, it fails to mention by name, Canjet, with whom they represent. Funny how that works. Again, what's this really about? The problem or the competit...

Re: Career Question
I was 27 when I decided to listen to that little voice inside me. I, like you had a good job but one that didnt fufill me in any way. I guess you could say I hated my job. Again, like you I had a deep rooted desire to defy gravity. I spent much of my youth watching planes take off and land, and rod...

Re: ALPA Canada and Lisa Raitt
I haven't started with them (Sunwing) yet, but I'm in the next class for Jan 28th ..seemed like a good bunch, and easy going...Interview fairly straight forward, tech exam ( 20 questions) and sim eval..mine was on the 767 so no real trouble.. Good plans moving forward with new planes arriving next ...

Re: Grounding Foreign Pilots
As long as there is a reciprical agreement on a 1 to 1 basis where as an equal number of Canadian pilots go overseas as forgeign pilots come here I'm OK with it. Better to be employed paying taxes year round than on EI 6 months out of the year. The problem I have is when there is no recip agreement...

Re: Sunwing Questions
Understand that the pilot group is against all this foreign pilots coming over...The FO's should get the upgrade, and more canadian pilots getting hired! It's the management that is pushing for this as a means for cheap training, and a ready supply of seasoned pilots. They've "hired" 8 pilots, but h...

Re: ALPA Canada and Lisa Raitt
That's true mbaviator, at least the Canjet MEC represented by ALPA has help. The Sunwing guys don't even get that, and from what I'm hearing they're bringing in close to 200 foreign pilots this season! Over 200 pilots are being brought in...and now they've stopped hiring..after only hiring 8 pilots!!

Re: AC announces non stop Calgary to Hawaii
WJ has seen a number of airlines with cheap fares try Alberta - Hawaii non-stop over the past few years. Transat tried it last year, Harmony did it out of Kelowna, Edmonton and Calgary for a few seasons. Both had cheap fares and reasonable flight times. Neither did well. Just a quick thought... Alt...

I'd like to see the flight plan for this one...!! APU running for the flight No HDMG No RAT battery that lasts an hour ETOPS fuel and possibly predatory pricing Nice! I've done this flight many times with my old world..6+25 to 7+15 was not uncommon...and that was at Mach .80...you guys wi...

Re: Air Canada vs Westjet
Ya know...there's also Sky Service, Sunwing, Canjet, Air Transat...to name a few...
plan on getting hired first, then worry about the rest..chances are, you'll have a different mindset by then anyway..
Good luck!
