Re: Science-Based Alternative to Ease Quarantine Act Restrictions

May I just respond to the comment from Gilles, regarding debt incurred during this time. Debt can be erased just as easily as it was incurred. Example: When the West decided to give Africa a break, writing off a big portion of their debt, during Paul Martin's and Bono's time, NOTHING changed in the ...

Re: Starting my Aviation career in Canada or Europe?

Good post, Valleyboy. I think it is pretty much exactly that. I was going to add that if he chooses Canada to start, it is way cheaper, but in the end, if you have to start over again in Europe anyways, cancelling that advantage. Get the PPL, build some hours, then head to Europe and see what's up t...

Re: YUL Base

Agreed. At least in Quebec they give you more than a week to learn the language, unlike in Germany! All luvly dubly at the beginning, then all English is off... at least that how it was more than once for me. Good motivation for learning in my books. And before somebody says: "French Canadians don't...

Re: YUL Base

My long experience with this is that when there is one Anglo, everyone speaks English whenever they can. One Francophone, and it's "well, he speaks English anyways, so why should we bother?" - everywhere in Canada, which is a bit weird isn't it? But not to a lot of anglophones for some strange reaso...

Re: Self attestation for medical renewal

When I sent my Self Attestation, I got an email saying they would get back to me. I don't think anybody is going to get in trouble based on invalid medicals at this time. I think they are expecting that once the local CAMEs are able to do proper medicals, and they are set up to review them, they wil...

I don't think anybody needs to apologise for making money. As long as everything is up front, it should never be an issue.

C'mon man, cut it out. Your example is a bad one, because I don't know about you, but when I was in my 20's, the last place I would want to live, was one surrounded by oldies like I am now.

Ditto Harv's. Slog through, and months later, when you finally finish, slog through again. You will be well positioned for anything your instructor throws at you. Read, read, and read some more. Start by sending away for the books they recommend, through them, Calgary Pilot Supply, Hammond Aviation ...

Re: Driving a nicer car than your boss....

Sigh... because the only reason for having these types of road cars is to talk about them. You know how most women's eyes glaze over when you mention that you are a pilot? Well, that doesn't happen with owning a Porsche. The vast majority of owners however, are not interested in doing with them what...

Maybe it is them... there are always backroom shenanigans going on, moving paper around, so the columns never add up to a profit. But I am only guessing.

Re: Get a degree

That is true for bigger companies, and was basically my experience too. I was a pilot working on the "ground", and that fact meant absolutely nothing to the hiring powers at the Flight Ops end of things. Or maybe they just didn't like me, which would be fair enough. Back to the OP: your studies will...

Re: Driving a nicer car than your boss....

Funny that Porsche drivers usually seem to care what other people think - and I know a lot of them. That kind of explains the whole attraction to the marque to me. Buy the car if you like it, but please take it to the track and don't be an idiot on the public roads. The Vette is a way better deal pe...

A view from the outside: Since you started that one, fitness can decide. The law to retire is discriminatory in any field. All businesses like cheaper, younger help, and love it even more when the pilots self destruct. How about the employers encourage the oldies to retire, by giving incentives? The...

Re: How to Move Forward

Ramp is a job. Period. All the promises in the world do not change that fact. You have to enjoy it or do not do it - life is just too hard otherwise. I worked construction, washing dishes, door to door surveys, and hotel night clerk, all to pay bills while not flying. You are not defined by flying; ...

Re: Jazz APP aviation pathway program

I for one, am struggling to find any positives in this particular downturn. Even during the "good time", competition was always fierce, regardless of what people would say. It is a bit like that hole left in the bucket of water when you take your hand out. Just keep going and don't think too much ab...
