Re: Logging Pilot In Command Under Supervision Time

I never understood the issue. Are there no jobs doing fire patrols or pipelines? Failing that, why can't people just buy or rent an airplane with a friend or two and just do it - take a few long trips and have fun. I am not trying to be a smart aleck. It isn't glamourous no, but then again, absolute...

Re: Reserve Schedule

Very helpful info there. Much more detailed than I even thought possible! Forgive my ignorance, but are the schedules done month by month? And thanks for helping me get my application in. I remain cautiously hopeful.

Mr schnitzel, if your comment was for me, your are 100% erroneous. I have no application to AC nor will I ever be making one. If people don't feel comfortable putting their info out there, it should be their choice.

Re: Am I too old to be a commercial pilot?

No that is a typical response from someone who worked for everything they have. I feel the same but really, i worked pretty hard for it, and made decent choices, as it turned out. I come from a good middle class family in a half decent first world country, so i suppose that is lucky.

Dunno about Alberta but Cornwall Aviation is very professional. Accommodations can be had for around $100/night in town. They are however, very busy. You want a place where you can get it done, with no dicking around. Allow about three weeks.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. If you want it, do it. You can go back full time to consulting anytime. It is not an easy road, even now, although it has never been like it is now in my my long lifetime. Ask yourself why you earned all that money in the first place. To enjoy life.

Re: looking for Air Canada pilot directory

Schools have no problem letting people know who their staff are. Also, many people advertise themselves as employees of different places. I fail to see a privacy problem with this. A lot of us have lost track of friends over the years and it would be nice to find them.

Re: Flight Simulator

Well, the TC people are known for contradicting themselves, just to get you off the phone. The solution is to do all the training on the sim, and a quick ride in the sim to warm up for the IFR ride with the examiner. There is a difference though between an IFR initial, renewal, and IFR as part of an...

Re: Possible Government assistance for training pilots.....given to the airlines?!

Mr Rookie, You are wrong on facts. Just as an example, 75% tax rate would never apply to those making less than millions. Second, You are assuming that because the government spends, people get taxed more. This fallacy is because conservative "thinkers" believe the system is a zero sum game, which i...

Suck it up, spend the money on a rental deal, and see how many friends you can convince to fly them around for split costs. There is no easy short cut, but it's your life.

If you cannot get highly experienced people, you need people who can learn anything you throw at them. University gives you that ability. Of course there are rare exceptions. It gives them a more polished person, who should be able to adapt to anything. I don't remember more than two or three people...

They appear to be waiting for the next "market correction", meanwhile let's see what we can extract from the people without changing our business models.

Re: Possible Government assistance for training pilots.....given to the airlines?!

It is a bit reactionary, rather than proactive. Airlines are no different than any other business though. When you haven't planned, make a big deal to the taxpayer... It has worked for them for years.
