Re: Air Transat laying off pilots
I'm sure they wont be running out of applicants when they start hiring again; however they may find the guys and gals that were laid off last year will not be willing to come back. It kind of leaves a bad taste in your mouth when you get hired, leave a good job to go work for them, only to be let go...

Re: Air Transat laying off pilots
So three weeks ago they had sent out a bunch of layoff notices and now all of a sudden they need everyone to come back and are hiring again... no thanks.

Re: New Merger?
The Transat payscale is a bit more, it was $52/hour to start, $57/hour 2nd year. Don't remember what 3rd year was, but it was nothing to get excited about, especially flying widebodies. It used to be much better than that but the juniors got screwed in the last contract. The per diems were good thou...

Re: New Merger?
Yeah regarding date of hire... in theory if the two airlines merged, if one were to be laid off from TSC last fall (but still on the recall list) and then hired by AC, which date of hire would be used? The TSC date of hire or the AC date of hire? In reality, I could hardly see TSC and AC merging. Tw...

Re: Air Canada Interviews
Got the pool email yesterday as well, I interviewed sept 20th. I am wondering how many of us are in this pool, and if they really intend on hiring us all or just delaying sending out the PFOs until they know how many new hires they need. Has anyone previously been placed in the pool only to be PFOed...

Re: No internal references.
Hi, I have a question for those who have recently been hired at Westjet; I was wondering how long it took to get the first phone call after submitting or updating their application. I have been applying online since 2009; back then I did not have the required experience, but I recently reapplied on ...

Re: What is a pilot really worth?
Would you put your wife, daughter or mother on a plane knowing that both pilots were 200hr CPLs, getting paid minimum wage? I think you're pretty well describing the regional airline industry in the USA, which I suspect your family travels on. The kids flying the Colgate dash-8 that crashed in Buff...

Would you put your wife, daughter or mother on a plane knowing that both pilots were 200hr CPLs, getting paid minimum wage? I don't care what a bus driver makes, or a dentist or even a CEO for that matter. I don't know many pilots asking for crazy amounts of money, most of the pilots I know make les...

Interesting web site, even though it only talks about the situation in the US. Is there anything we can do in Canada?

Re: Air France Crash and Stalls
In one of my sessions during my initial trainning, we had the instructor turn off the motion and did stall recoveries. We started at FL330, and after ignoring all stall warnings and actually stalling it, we regained control after giving up about 5000'. I realize the sim probably doesn't behave quite...

Re: Southwest Pilot + Stuck Mike + Pilot Rant = Suspension
Has anyone thought that maybe the FO had enough too, reached over and turned on the hot-mike or pushed the transmit button? Interesting that the FO didn't make a single comment during the tirade. Give him rope and let him hang himself. Yeah, I was wondering about that too. Personnaly I probably wou...

Thanks guys! Pretty interesting results so far, with West Jet in 1st and Jazz a close 2nd... Could this mean pilots are actually more interested in lifestyle, not metal?

Re: Transat AT shares lose 20%
[quote="downtomda"]20 years ago, I travelled down south and stayed at a 3.5 star for $1000. This year I stayed down south at a 5 star for $850! That's the problem right there... if you factor in inflation at 3%, that trip you took 20 years ago would cost about $1800 nowadays. Airlines and tour opera...

Merci Mooney, tes recommendations sont bien notées. embauche chez Air Transat
Je me demandais si il y avait sur ce forum des pilotes d'Air Transat qui pourrait me renseigner sur le processus d'embauche. Quel genre d'entrevue? Y a t'il une évaluation sur le sim? Un examen médical etc? Cette compagnie m'interesse depuis longtemps et je voudrai en savoir le plus possible au cas ...

I think the .45 ACP might be a bit harsh on my girly wrists. I'm now thinking 9mm. :bear: :bear: If you're looking at 9mm and want something practical and durable... the best bang for your buck is a glock 17... yes its made of plastic, its ugly and boxy, and the trigger pull is heavy out of the box...

Re: Interesting Article - In Defense of Elitists
In my honest opinion, it should be harder to become a pilot. I'm pretty sure almost anyone, given enough practice could become a private pilot, and that's just fine if all they want to do is fly their friends around in a 172. Let's just make it MUCH harder to get a commercial license. There isn't en...

On a related note, does anyone living in YYC know where to buy relatively cheap 9mm ammo? The rounds at the range are grossly overpriced, and I don't have the time and equipment to do my own reloads.

Re: Interfaith progression needs outside the box thinking!
I say burn the damn thing, and while you're at it, throw in a bible and a talmud and whatever else makes a good bonfire. The sooner people realize that there is no god, no afterlife, no point in dying in awful acts of terrorism or wars of reprisal, the better off the human race will be.
