Re: Given the chance would you bail?
I'm not gaga about airplanes and hate loud things, but I love my job, have great pay, and have never been laid off in this industry. I've had many people ask me about my opinion of getting into aviation. Part of me thinks of the thousands of people who complain. Complaining is a virus. Than I think ...

Whenever possible physically bring in your resume, than 2 weeks later, show up again or call. Just putting stamps on a bunch of resumes does nothing.

If your working in a company with a fleet of aircraft than yea, they are cheap. But I used to work at an avionics shop and understood not having type courses on every aircraft I worked on.

Re: Avionics, Maint Release
On the job training if records are kept also counts as "training". If you know an aircraft "system" than you know that system on multiple aircraft. Changes are often very minor. I dont think I'd need a type course on a Long Ranger to fix an encoder snag if I've been trained on altitude encoder syste...

(iii) E: Aircraft electronic systems ... and any structural work It is complete insanity that if you get an E licence, you get an S licence "for free". I'm a graduate EE, and I'll bet I could pick up an E licence without breaking a sweat. But I don't know diddly about structures. You also decided n...

Our logbooks have a place for you to sign for your work completed, as in snag rectified. This is the spot where the E guy signs his/her work. At the end is the Maintenance Release which you have to sign and put your ACA stamp on. After this is done, the aircraft is fit to fly. This is where the pro...

Re: AME "E" Class Avionics Career Advice
I haven't met may people in maintenance that had a "passion" for the industry. Being content with what you make is purely a personal thing. I make more than my father ever dreamed of making as a truck driver, and I'm home every night! Speaking only for myself, but the industry has been very good to ...

Prepware 9 is an electronic study aid for the airframe, standard practices, and engines. Lots of study exams. Its American, but minus the regs the questions are bang on. I know a few people who have used it and loved the results.
You can get it at aviall, $100 or so.

If I could do it again I would take the three year combination course and have more choices upon completion.
I took a one year (first mistake) M course and than a 2 year E course. Got my E liscense and now working on my M2.
Mechanincs with an E background I've found are quite valuable.

Although, I have found that the Xcelite screwdrivers are quite good, the 12inch #1 philips is great for the back of racks, and they make a really nice set of small screwdrivers. Oh yea, and they also make a bristol spline kit and allan key kit that are really nice and small for some of the instrumen...

no need to get all the tools right away. Buy any tool you have to borrow twice. 1/4in drive deep sockets are most easily found at NAPA. they have a nice little set there. Snap on screwdrivers. period. They make a nice set of four that have a #1 and #2 philips and common, many many uses. a nice assor...

Go to an acredited course. I graduated from a non acredited course because it was only 10 months. Regret it. Longer apprenticeship, less people will hire you upon graduation. Left there and went to a real course at SAIT. Did their E course. There are not many worthwhile shortcuts in life.

Didn't crash the net NEARLY enough, Like none. Loads of chances, and I think I heard that they hit 8 posts in the series? But no second chance goals. The flyers intimidated with their size, and used their extremely hot and lucky goal tending. Seems like a good time to hang up the skates because you ...
