Cadets, then the Air Force.

Now I rage around ridiculously fast and drop bombs for a living. I'd recommend to anyone starting out to give it a go.

I didn't bother to read the 5 pages of replies but I'll say this.

I like Americans. A lot more than people from Toronto.

That is all

I have to agree that there's no way you should be doing this without being trained. We use IMC form all the time, it's completely safe, but you need to be trained and briefed for all contigencies (lost wingman, etc). It also is a lot of work and I wouldn't do it if there was no reason (not enough ga...

I'm not going to get into this one, as the original article is a repeat from a year ago, and this argument has already taken place. I'll just say this: right now we have a government that's finally doing right by the military, a chief of defence staff who is great, and isn't afraid to speak his mind...

If you wanna be a pilot, dont put nav as your 2nd choice. Better safe than sorry That doesn't matter at all. At aircrew selection there are two separate, independent tests for pilot or nav, you can do them both if you want. The nav tests are written, its a lot of quick arithmetic, stuff like that. ...

Just some tips to help lookout. Take off your sunglasses, if it's not too bright. Every photon counts, you will pick guys up further out. Have a mechanical scan pattern and be self disciplined. Scan in chunks of sky, move along above the horizon, then below, whatever works for you. Don't just look i...

Oh and you can do CAS through cloud with JDAM (GPS guided bombs), but obviously its not preferred. In fact a lot of CAS in Afghanistan/Iraq has been done with B1s/B-52s from way up high with JDAMs.

Dudes, these A-10 guys live and breathe CAS. That's all they do. Did they mess up? Possibly. But what are the odds that some FAC sittting back a few hundred yards, under fire, messed up? Don't get emotional over these things until you know what happened. Friendly fire happens in every war, it's a fa...

Also can appear that way because the horizon you see is actually level with you. The higher you get above the earth, the lower the horizon line is below "level", so someone level with you will appear further above the horizon.

We have a document very similar to the CARs, a lot of it is basically the same rules verbatum with some small changes (not always requiring an ifr alternate, etc). Our rules read more or less the same as yours for this section. That second section of the CARs gives our commanders the authority to ma...

What can I say to that? When you start down from the forties you start down more than 100 nm back from the airport. Even more if you're descending into icing conditions. I'm not going to slow to circuit speeds that far back! The rules only limit you to 250 knots below 10,000 in the vicinity of a MF...
