Re: North Cariboo activity...or lack of?
Their contract with Meg Energy was terminated less than a month ago as well. Apparently Meg gave them 30 days notice and NCA dropped them on the spot for whatever reason. Friend of mine used to work there and still has some contacts in the know. Everything he's heard seems to indicate they're circli...

Re: Westwind
Can't speak to these specific pilots. However, I am aware of some who got caught taking off with ice and inadequate deicing infrastructure. They were canned. You don't wanna be management's scape goat either. A great email (written record) to have with a chief pilot or some sort of ops coordinator....

Re: Air Tindi Twin Otter Down
Twin otter flaps will drop with a loss of hydraulic pressure without aerodynamic loading. I may have sat in the penalty box for leaving the forward rear door open and having the flap/door get damaged as the hydraulic pressure bled off at a carrier that didn’t like to fix things. PS I’m hurt by your...

Re: Air Tindi Twin Otter Down
the other didn't fly at all after his PPC. That doesn’t make sense, training is too expensive for them to not try and get a return on it. Sure it does. It's a move that's as old as time. It's called "stealing a PPC". You get that all-important first job, quit when you get a PPC and then spend time ...

Re: Air Tindi Twin Otter Down
They do ramp/flight line these days?? Yeah, they still do. You start off on the ramp or as an FA on the Dash, then they'll put you on the twin otter or king air after a few months. Except once you're typed you'll still be working the ground part-time. Had a couple FOs I flew with that came from the...

Re: Air Tindi Twin Otter Down
A lot might depend on the situation. Something like a B99 or a Do-228 will probably be landing at a known strip which ideally has been, marked sufficiently to have an outline. With sufficient precautions, one may be able to land there in non-ideal weather conditions. A Twin Otter on skis may be lan...

Re: Air Tindi Twin Otter Down
Glad to see everyone is walking away from it. Tindi’s Twin Otters have unlucky/lucky lately with bent metal being the issue. Marginal ski flying in high winds with low vis due blowing snow over frozen lakes has caused more than a few accidents. I can think of a few that thankfully ended with everyo...

Re: DHC announces DHC-6-300G
I am surprised about the change from Honeywell in the -400s to G1000s. It seems like sticking with the same avionics would be simpler and easier. More tie down rings would be nice, but in order to support any meaningful amount of weight, the structural supports would probably have to beefed up cons...

Re: DHC announces DHC-6-300G
So will the 300G be STOL certified? I believe the 400 series was not. What are the minimum temps for the digital avionics? Are you able to fire up the engines without having to preheat the avionics first? If you’re referring to RGR ops, the 400 is certified for it. I believe it’s a factory option f...

Re: DHC announces DHC-6-300G
Too fussy. Let's see one without all the expensive "wireless" touchscreen junk, and a lightweight short nose. More tie-down rings in the cabin, some better insulation and sound-proofing, a more durable interior and more auxiliary wing fuel capacity. Reintroduce the cabin roof escape hatch. Maybe in...

Re: King Air in YQT
Could they have pushed the left prop in reverse? Unlikely, the 350 has 2 gates, conceivably they could have got one into ground fine. They do fall out of the sky if you go over the first gate in the air. You'd also have to work to get these things to stall on approach... so I'm not sure what happen...

This King Air along with C-GPDC and C-GSYC are owned by Pat Campling/Avalerion Corporation and are operated under contract to the RCAF. They're registered to Tindi, but they don't really have anything to do with them. They were previously registered to Transwest until last year under the same arrang...

No fuel in Tanks.jpg Stolen from facebook I've seen this picture and a few others now. Looks like the nose gear is sunk or bent back and the main is angled back a bit. Some wrinkling on the nose but that's it for visible damage from what I was able to see, obviously there will be significant struct...

Re: Citation RTO After Inability to Rotate
“Minimal braking required” followed by “brake fire” I wonder if dragging brakes would create enough of a nose down movement to make pulling the nose off heavier/ unable to? The crash that killed the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl hockey team was caused by precisely that. The difference being that they didn't ...

Re: Pilots Getting a Tip
My employer services a few Northern fishing camps whose clientele are primarily wealthy Americans. They usually tip us quite well, and usually in USD. It's not expected of them, but they do anyway. As far as I'm aware we have no policy that forbids this. Even if there was, I doubt it would prevent it.

Apologies for the ambiguity, but I'm not inferring that training a factor in this accident . I'm just arguing that it's a possible reason for the company being under enhanced monitoring.

There is something interesting in the statement. He said that the company was under enhanced monitoring when the accident occurred. What would be the reason for this. If I had to guess, this would likely be at least part of the reason: https://globalnews.ca/news/3001219/west-wind-aviation-retrains-...

Could be entirely incorrect, but is this by chance the "successor" to KD Air? The TC register lists four Navajos and a Cherokee Six formerly of KD Air registered to Cascadia Airways Inc. It also shows that they've been registered to the current owner since they were originally acquired by KD Air, s...

Re: Any pilots from Vancouver or Saskatoon?
As far as weather goes, as long as you don't mind it being -40° in the winter and 40° in the summer, Saskatoon isn't too bad. The only issue being that the flight schools generally have a -25° cutoff, so there's often quite a bit of downtime in the winter. If you're looking for an instructing gig, M...

Is the Metroliner such a masterpiece of an airplane that there is nothing else that could do the job? Not at near those operating costs! I hear total operating costs per hour of a 1900D are almost double those of a Metro... That's a tough price to pay for a lifetime of hearing damage and back probl...

The only other FBO is The Aerocentre next door to Kreos. It’s also owned by Kreos, so their rates are likely the same if that’s your primary concern. As for flight schools, there’s Mitchinson’s. You might be able to go through them if you call in advance, although they might want you to buy fuel as ...

Re: De Havilland contemplates stretched, shrunken Dash 8-400
As far as I'm aware, P&WC stated that that PW150 could be scaled up to 7,000 SHP, but there wasn't enough demand to justify it at the time. By the time that it would've been financially practical to develop, it was already a ten year old design based on architecture which preceded it by fifteen year...

Re: De Havilland contemplates stretched, shrunken Dash 8-400
Shorten the fuselage and put whatever new 3000ish shp PW can come up with and call it a Dash 8-350. On that topic, does anyone else recall the engine P&WC was developing not too long ago for the hundred seat market? Was supposedly going to be scalable from 4,500 to 7,000 SHP with up to 20% better f...
