Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Increased Purchase Price to $18 per Share

Lots of immaturity here. I work for AC, i may get my lay off notice as well in the coming months. If so, it would be my 3rd layoff in this industry, I know a few pilots at transat and they are A+. To say poor career choice is brutal on your part fl280, should retract your statement nor does it look...

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Increased Purchase Price to $18 per Share

Most Air Transat pilots are probably waiting to go back to work at Air Transat. I was afraid of that. Time for some soul searching and asking yourself if any Canadians are really going to be taking a vacation in the next year, and if those few that can still afford vacations are looking for an all ...

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Increased Purchase Price to $18 per Share

Same could be said about any other stock right now. People focus on the stock price so much that when EVERY stock has plummeted they don’t look at the market for what it is, only the individual one they want. If it is such a bargain , than why isn't the smart money buying up the shares ? :?: The ta...

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Increased Purchase Price to $18 per Share

I think merger makes sense more now than ever with covid going on. Rouge will be eliminated. Even at 18 a share Transat is a bargain. The writing in on the wall with rouge. Definitely see Transat shares taking off because investors know this deal will happen. If it is such a bargain , than why isn'...

Re: Layoffs

Yikes, where did you get your MBA? Everest college? 😂 Thanks for rebutting the point and not reverting to personal attacks! My point is that people could have easily had their savings wiped out. Including people with ESOP's at AC. The stock market took a shit and this has nothing to do with the vol...

Re: Layoffs

Isn't this the time to protect us with our cash reserves set aside? If they're not there to protect employees that make the sacrifice daily to make the wheels turn, then what are they for? I don't think a companies cash reserves are there to protect the employees. I'm pretty sure it's to protect th...

Re: Layoffs

There may be a silver lining in that layoff notice for Transat pilots. If their management truly believes the deal with AC is going through at the price negotiated there is no reason to continue operating the company while losing money hand over fist. Better to sit back and wait for your $750 milli...

Re: WestJet Group Hiring Freeze

Google recession early ‘80s and you will get an answer. I was in the thick of it at the time, wasn’t pleasant for sure. Go back to May 1973 during the Arab oil embargo , when the majority of B-747's World wide were grounded. Plenty of '47s would be in YQX those days as plenty of fuel, cheaper it wa...

Re: WestJet Group Hiring Freeze

Some have not been through similar or worse events in their lives. Possibly they have not experienced much adversity in life. That's nice for them; little do they know adversity is part of maturation process. Much worse has happened before and more will likely happen again, but life goes on! After ...

Re: WestJet Group Hiring Freeze

Nothing is going back to normal. Trudeau has officially killed the economy and it is not coming back anytime soon. Wow, I didn't realize Trudeau was so powerful. Apparently he has shut down Asia, Europe, South America and the USA in addition to screwing Canada. I always thought Prime Minister of Ca...

Rumblings of the deal being revisited or renegotiated.

This post is not meant to sow any discourse. Just passing on what I heard. I know the competition bureau is supposed to rule soon on it.

May just be a defferal on when it will close.
If ever.

I would love it if this unprecedented aviation downturn could finally bring pilot unity. But as the above posts demonstrate...it will never happen
It more than likely will have the opposite effect, because when people become insecure , they act more with their emotions than with logic.

From valued employees to kicking stones down the road, once this all blows over, wonder how people will feel about airline careers?
That's why you shouldn't put all of your eggs in one basket. Other than government , nobody can guarantee you a job for life.

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Increased Purchase Price to $18 per Share

AT could fail before any of this even has the chance to go through. We're still looking at 2 more months before the gvn't gives it's result, and I'm sure it's the last thing on their mind right now. Now... I could see the gvn't doing something like they did with Canadian and AC, force AC take on AT...

You guys all realize that ACboi and Habslover are clearly trolls right? Neither likely works for AC or Transat? ACboi isn’t even trolling the point. No AC pilot is saying we are better because we were hired at AC. We are saying we will vigorously defend our own careers. Yo dude, I no troll. been he...

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Increased Purchase Price to $18 per Share

I don't know about others but yes I very much did "count u my lucky stars" when I got hired at AC. And now to see people who were my FOs at Jazz and left to AT and ditching the AC brand, end up likely having a higher seniority than me does make me annoyed. So what, am I not allowed to be annoyed? 1...

With these Oil prices is there a chance for some serious hedging and rapid comebacks?
In order to hedge you need lots of cash reserves. Transit lost 10''s of millions and Southwest lost 100's of millions playing the game.

If you talk to the powers at be at Onex, they'll tell you they bought WJ at a $4-$7 per share discount to its true value. Onex doesn't over pay for anything. They bought WJ when it was just coming out of a mud puddle and they know it. They'll be furloughs at AC, WJ, AA, Delta, UAL, Alaska, jetBlue,...

Re: Grab a seat. The music is stopping

I can also see Flair and Swoop having a hard time because of this... with their prices they need excellent load-factors, and that's not going to happen if people need to save their pennies to pay off debt incurred by this whole shit-show. I disagree, low cost carriers are the ones who are least imp...

AC had $5.889b in cash, cash equivalents and short term investments at Dec 31 2019. At an average run rate of $47.893m a day, that's 123 days of cash available. WS had an average run rate of $13m a day with cash of about $1.6b, or coincidentally, 123 days of cash available. Both may have credit fac...

Re: WestJet Group Hiring Freeze

I have considered the prospect of a job share or pay cut. That would be cool as long as it came with fences. If you give up 10% at a place like WestJet then you need assurances that you will get it back. Guys on furlough also need to come back to the same job they left - not something worse than wh...

Not instantly but they will be bankrupt in a matter of months. Why would AC buy them? Good question. AC might be expecting a discount in light of the new financial realities. .... so you don't know how this works. For what you said, AC would first have to break the current agreement, then renegotia...
