Re: what's this symbol in VNC ?

Hi Huli_zcg,

These boundaries surround areas of IFR traffic on approach to CYAV.

You are correct it is not found in either legends (VNC or VTA), however it is in the CFS. Please refer to the attached screen shot of the St. Andrews VFR Terminal Procedure Chart.

Cheers.

Re: Outlook on instructing jobs

Good morning leafs, I am a flight instructor and has been for almost 6 years now. I love what I do and I am glad that I chose this path rather than going straight to fly commercially since I had the opportunity back then. I appreciate your enthusiasm; this side of the industry can benefit from peopl...

Re: Air Sprint Questions

Hi Matt,

Any updates on hiring for the First Officer role in YUL/YYZ bases? I have applied for the position but I haven't heard anything yet.

Thank you.

Re: Good FTU for instructing-Montreal/GTA

Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre is a great school, great fleet, great maintenance and good people. Ask for Ackbar Bashiri for your instructor rating or Pete Lise. We don't have an instructor shortage as the University/College students become instructors and keep us going, but they do take externa...

How many instructors do they have? Are they busy?

Re: Good FTU for instructing-Montreal/GTA

To give you more cue: Cargair: as mentionned, probably your best chance. But when you are class 4 FI you have to "rent" the plane (can't remembrer the rate, around 15 to 20$). This rent desapear when you become class 3. Average rate is around 20 for a class 4 to 30/h for a class 3. The typical prog...

Re: Good FTU for instructing-Montreal/GTA

Dorval aviation seems to be more anglophone than the other schools in the greater Montreal area. Flying out of YUL has it's plus and minuses. Cornwall could be a good bet. Most schools in CYHU probably would require some level of French but your best bet would be to call/visit and find out. I flew ...

Re: Good FTU for instructing-Montreal/GTA

I tried calling 3 schools in Montreal. One answered me and told me that they fly around 400 hours a year. I think they have a small operation. They kinda lost interest when I said I might do my instructor’s rating elsewhere due to funding restraints. I called Cargair but I was told that the employee...

Good FTU for instructing-Montreal/GTA

Hi everyone, Please note: I have searched the forum for recent opinions on this topic but I did not find a relevant thread. I am currently considering becoming a flight instructor and I am once again seeking your guidance and advice. The plan is for me and my family (we have one new baby) to move to...

Re: B1900 or flight instruction?

Don’t worry, you won’t be able to make a living as a brand new class 4 in Alberta, either. I have heard of schools giving a good base salary and and hourly pay on top once surpassing a predetermined number of hours monthly. For example, Montair pays 44K a year for Class 3 and $25/hr once over 50 ho...

Re: Convert Canadian CPL to EASA

First step is writing all 14 exams to be issued a frozen atpl... Once you've gone through that process you're looking at around 15 hours minimum dual for the cpl if you're between 250-499 hours, followed by a minimum 15 hours (10 can be in the Sim) for the multi IFR as you are given 40 hours credit...

Re: B1900 or flight instruction?

What makes you think you can automatically fly a 1900 after getting your ratings? Unless you somehow have a guranteed opportunity then that option sounds like a gamble (you got a family to think of..). Instructing however is much more viable in terms of finding employment and sounds like ur family ...

Re: B1900 or flight instruction?

Can you get enough PICUS hours to meet all the requirements for an ATPL these days? Also, be careful, a lot of operations have PICUS programs but don't have a lot of captains that are qualified to do it. Also, I know guys (at least 2) being turned down at regionals and elsewhere due to lack of PIC ...

Re: B1900 or flight instruction?

Two questions you'll need to answer: Do the regionals hire with only instructor time? Can't upgrade at the regionals without an ATPL, so how are you going to get the required hours for the ATPL. I actually do not know the answer to the first question. It would help if I do. As for the second questi...

Re: B1900 or flight instruction?

Do an instructor rating and instruct for a year or two Spare your unfortunate students the hell of being instructed by someone with no desire to teach, and go and fly, if that's what you want to do. The people you would otherwise be instructing will thank you for it. This is assuming that I hate in...

B1900 or flight instruction?

Hi everyone. This is my first post as a member on this forum, but I have been a long time lurker nonetheless. I have just finished my CPL and Multi-instrument ratings and I now stand in front of two paths and I am conflicted on which one to take. 1- Do an instructor rating and instruct for a year or...
