Re: CEN4 (High River, AB) crash?
I think what they're saying is that winds can change quickly when there's convective activity around, and I agree, I'd bet the pilot was approaching with a headwind. Ever notice the windsock spinning around on one of those days?

Re: Bush pay???
I've never understood the business decision behind saving a few dollars on salary and having high turnover. I guess that's why I'm not in the market for a $325000 motorhome.

Re: External Loads on Private Aircraft
My first chief pilot taught me to use ratchet straps. They worked okay. External loads were not often done. My second chief pilot taught me to use ropes (high quality climbing type, replaced often) and external loads were done regularly. The method was done similarly to that in Wabano's pic. Never h...

I don't know this guy, but there are plenty of reasons why you could be looking for a job in August. Any of us who have spent any time in the bush could probably give you more than you'd like to hear. And you don't need to know how to spell to fly a Beaver. Oh yeah, no I don't know of anyone looking...

PARADISE, from a former maritimer, it may be possible to find work there, but when I searched out east, I found that the pay generally sucked. Things may have changed by now, I don't know. I had to go west...not sorry I did, lets face it, in this business you'll eventually have to move, lots. Good l...

cpl_atc, I don't want to get into a pissing match, but I believe many of us on here have made the mistake of taking off overloaded more than once, especially from places with no scales. Also, from what I know about this case the pilot did not take off coated in ice, rather he ran into it after take ...

It's interesting to hear you guys debate the power settings / prop rpm to use. I was taught to use 28/18, and reduced power take-offs when possible and it has served me well so far, but have heard that those who use the R985 for cropdusting really give 'er! Many stories of over-boosting on every tak...

I hear ya Philly, sounds like you still have the odd shitee task thrown in for good measure. My season is over now and I gotta say that I'm not missing getting out a 55 year single engine float plane after a below IFR minimum approach and while being refuelled for another expected departure because ...

Right Seat Captain, that very thing happened to me...and he showed me a couple things in the air. With the flight portion only taking 0.9 flight time, I thought I was toast but turns out every thing was cool...he just wanted to show me a couple things I may not have seen before. Bogey, if you're pre...
