Re: Night Flying - Airport Lighting
You are quite right gents. Having installed a few thousand edge lights...the Westinghouse units are aligned to toe slightly towards the center line and your eyes while on approach. As you get closer the angle increases and it dims a bit. Then there is a reflector inside the glass to block the main g...

So, to finance that: Raising "local funds" from industry should not be difficult considering embarrassment factors, malfeasance, and incompetence we have seen in the past. Each share of the contributions could be based on the ratio of emissions…if Jack puts out 500 metric tonnes per day, and Jill 10...

Re: Hopeless?
It appears to me both ministries have snoozed thru two important large industrial proposals and the locals are effectively handcuffed.
Going fishing now and will try to regroup.

Re: Hopeless?
Gentlemen, Maybe I've missed an important angle on this issue. Maybe the points that should have been stressed are: 1. the number of airports, airstrips, gas & oil camps, pipeline patrols, outfitters strips, mines, windfarms etc that use YXJ as their alternate? 2. and then comments as to the reliabi...

Re: Hopeless?
For example, maybe your picture could show: 1. Why there were 17 aircraft on frequency with no tower? 2. Why we had 41 minutes in the holding pattern? 3. Why we are using so much more glycol? Edit: 4. Why we had 3/4" of frost all over the airfield lighting...what percent of design light output do we...

Mr. .. ., 1. You are quite correct. It is a CRJ. My bad. My sincere apology is offered. In fact there are more 3am errors in the presentation that will have to be corrected before I can offer it to UBCM, provincial aviation councils and planning think tanks. Hopefully the points that really matter w...

Ahramin: 1. As you have correctly forecasted, the response from EC was clearly from some one learning to speed read who has not looked at industrial pollution through the windscreen. 2. So how did GA become the "enemy"?? I worked for them for some years after graduating from DOT's Air Services Train...

Hard to remain calm and completely coherent after listening to EC's and TC's presentations...I did not expect to have to try one but it was like the Minister of Enablement had told them to put in a show at the hearing without actually saying anything to do with aviation impacts. EC spent most of the...

Re: 1984 Wapiti Aviation Crash Info
That could explain the freezing rain mentioned above. I remember Mr. Notley dropping by the YQU wx stn, was well respected and pretty knowledgeable on aviation subjects. We were told that the trip would often cancel IFR enroute YPE and slide over into the strip. Believe YPE techs serviced the NDB.

Was surprised to hear consultant for big OSB mill admit that at -10C with 8 knot wind their emission was unlikely to freeze but at -20C "most of it will freeze"...so in other words we have super cooled liquid aloft in the control zone for most of the winter. Not nice if buried in low cloud, fog or s...

ILS replaced here this summer...appears we now have no back course and are still skipping signal off the snowbanks to the front course?

Re: New Air Traffic Control System to Cut Millions of Tons o
And then, of course, we could stop building huge mills in the middle of our air traffic control zones. That would reduce de-icings, wait time to take off, and maybe we wouldn't have scheduled carriers in the holding pattern for 70 minutes any more.

Water strip still exists beside runway but may have been shortened for new water settling pond...best call Larry Moody as i see his Beech 18 on floats at Swan Lake.
Also DQ has about 35 new wind towers sticking up about 8.3 miles WNW...don't think they are lighted yet. 1 blade = 104 ft.

Just a reminder, gents,
There is a snow storm somewhere in Canada every day, and ILS can be upset by:
a) snow depth
b) snow drifts
c) snow blower activity
Fly safe.

I have long wished we didn't have to skip GP signals off the snowbanks. Seems to me there is a storm somewhere in Canada nearly every day.
