Re: $100K Signing Bonus - Hiring Pilots

I was sponsored by my USA employer on O1 visa with express option. This provides an approval in 15 days after submission. Curious about your residency/citizenship, experience level, how you went about the process (through a lawyer, employment agency etc) and who you are flying for. If you're willin...

Re: Own vs Rent Break Even?

Very, very few PPL's fly 100hrs per year. Maybe rent for a year and see how many hours you'll actually fly. It might change your equation a bit.

Re: MAG Aerospace SK detection contract

My info is 3yrs old but I interviewed with them and it was close to $1000/wk with accommodation paid for. Schedule was something like 25/5. This was for Ontario where 25mpic was required. Sask was 100mpic requirement so I think it may have paid a bit more. There was a decent retention bonus at the e...

Re: ISO Career Changers

I did. Took a 75% paycut initially. Down to about 50% now after 4 years. I have no regrets. I'm not the type of person that can sit at a desk or in meetings from 8-5, or slaved to your cell phone or outlook calendar. I have far more time off now, and I have lots of hobbies outside of work. I took o...

Did you have to sign a bond at pipeline gig?
Correct, it pays better than the regionals and most other entry-level FO spots. No bond for the outfit I worked for.

Re: Pipeline Patrol in Alberta?

4 months as observer (totally variable based on pilot movement), then a year in the left seat. Made 46k in the last 12mo and flew 800hrs. I've done alot of different things, aviation and otherwise, and it is still one of the best jobs I've ever had. Some hated it and couldn't wait to move on. Depend...

Re: Flair Hiring B737 FO's

YXX is going as junior as the Feb 2022 new hires. YVR in January 2022. We're adding 8 aircraft this year of which one is going to YVR and there should be more there next year so I anticipate availability in YVR again in 2023 although they are our relatively more senior bases. How about CYEG for sen...

Re: Flair Hiring B737 FO's

Could someone tell me what the chances are of holding YXX as a new hire FO? Or how long it would take someone to bid for the YXX/YVR bases as a new hire? It's the internet, and it's my opinion. Take it or leave it. Or better yet, try it out for yourself.

Suggest you read "Stick and Rudder" by Wolfgang Langewiesche, and "Contact Flying" by Jim Dulin.

Re: Tips and tricks thread

That's a flight school thing. Best angle of climb doesn't really exist in an operational world. It sounds like it should. maintain the free energy of ground effect as long as possible How would one tell what "as long as possible" is? but the gist of the original treetop comment is, Actually that's ...

Re: Tips and tricks thread

Can you explain that in a bit more detail? Tree tops are much softer than they look and it's apparently safer if badly cornered on take off, to go through it (Up to some point of course) Instead of above and stall. The actual tip would be not to put yourself in such a position. Isn't it the best th...

Re: Is an LPV a precision approach?

Not sure if this helps at all, but when I did my MIFR ride a few years ago, the airport wasn't equipped with an ILS, so I did an LPV and that counted as a precision approach.

Not the worst gig for 2/2 rotation with paid travel and accoms. Allows you to live anywhere, which is important to some people for a variety of reasons.

I'm hesitant to spread second hand information and opinion, but 10:1 the final report says something about Human Factors - Hazardous Attitudes
