Re: Skycare or Thunder Airlines?
Thunder without a doubt. The planes are a bit tired but the people there are great. There is a bond but you won’t be forced to upgrade/change seats if you don’t want to. Pay is okay, better on the MU2 side of things. They’re currently incentivizing captains to stay with a decent signing bonus (2 yr ...

737 with express paint?
The 737 with express badging that was posted a couple weeks ago seems to be legit. Here’s another pic of it seen in Windsor today while driving past the maintenance facility. Any one have any idea as to what the thought process is with this?

Re: Visiting Canada Wonderland by small airplane - CYYZ?
If you’ve never been to YTZ and it’s something you’d like in your logbook I’d recommend you go there. It’s one of the best cityscape approaches in the world, arguably the best in NA, especially right after sunset. Visually stunning. Porter FBO was my preference when I used to fly into the island on ...

Re: Most professional operator to work for.
Some of the happiest pilots I’ve met operate private jets for a great owner. Typically they’re the hardest job to find since the “job” is good to the level that people don’t move on but if you can get into one that’s the way to go in my opinion.

Re: Single Pilot rating
Interesting question. I know FSI offers a C25S type but that’s a blanket single pilot for the entire CJ series and is usually done by FAA guys. In Canada you need the specific type to fly a specific CJ, for example a C25M cannot fly a C25B without a new initial on the C25B. Maybe you’d need a C25BS ...

I had an interview offer the next morning after applying. Had around 2200 tt with around 1000 multi turbine PIC. Ended up declining the invitation to interview as I accepted another position. Not sure on the time between interview to offer personally but I do know they are moving relatively quickly ...

Re: SkyCare Overrun at Atikokan
Agreed with all above. I intentionally did not mention snow removal in my previous comment. Hopefully it was not inferred by my statement that snow removal is done in a timely and effective manner up north as it absolutely is not. Especially if it snowed on a weekend or a holiday you can pretty much...

Re: SkyCare Overrun at Atikokan
I wasn’t really commenting on the skycare over run, more so just YIB in general. Although over run with that up slope as well is interesting. 04 is a more comfortable runway to land on than 22. Feared is very dramatic Jean Pierre. The airport/runway does suck though, that’s a fact. I’d prefer a Pik ...

Re: SkyCare Overrun at Atikokan
One of the worst airports/runways in Ontario. I’d take a gravel strip in the north over yib all day. It’s surrounded by tall trees and has a very annoying down slope when landing on 22. Worst runway lights in the country, and closest weather info that is accessible in flight is from 50 nautical mile...

Re: What is the acceptable industry discount on Canadian pilots?
There needs to be some sort of matrix involved. The conditions in the USA did not always exist. Indeed there was a time when US pilots were paid as bad or worse.. and they still are outside of 121 where the 1500 hour rule doesn’t apply. The first part would be to ask how many pilots in Canada made ...
Re: Bahamas
One more question for Heavy. Picking up an IFR clearance from here is it through Nassau Radio on 128.0? Can we get them on the ground? Nassau always just hands us off to Miami, freq is along the lines of 125.7 for Miami I think. Whatever the Miami freq that you cancel with going in is the same one ...

Re: If I am willing to go anywhere in Canada, is there ANY job for a 180 hour pilot?
Hahaha this went off the rails. I flew a BE10 in a two crew op as FO and a few months later as Capt with no IATRA. I then went direct to the left seat of a MU2, still with no IATRA. I did all of that with just a CPL. A few months after getting my MU2 sticker I wrote the SARON and SAMRA and then appl...

Re: If I am willing to go anywhere in Canada, is there ANY job for a 180 hour pilot?
To clarify some above info the IATRA is not necessary for HP aircraft. IATRA allows non ATPL’s to get a right seat type rating in a two crew aircraft. You do not need an IATRA to get a type on a king air, 1900, PC12, MU2 or anything of similar sorts. It is ONLY required for two crew aeroplanes. Many...

Re: New pilot looking for advice
Are you open to ramp to flight line positions? With only 400 hours that may be something you’ll need to look into. Once you secure a ramp to flight line job you can always continue to apply for the pipeline jobs or other similar positions. You’re not locked in as a ramper but at least you’re working...
Re: Bahamas
I’ve flown a Citation into Eleuthera probably 10-15 times this year already. Incredible island. Flying into Eleuthera is easy, usually we land at Governor’s Harbour but it’s all the same. We try and cancel the IFR pretty early if possible as the non radar flying can be a bit annoying. North Eleuther...

Re: Is it that bad at AC for pilots? I mean food stamp bad!
Where are you going to go? I’m genuinely curious. People say that all the time but very few leave. I'll go back to corporate. I took the gamble on AC for a schedule, pension, and "job security." Why not grab a seniority number now, because if the contract does turn out to be good there will be a fl...

The above comment is a good read and should be common knowledge for anyone that is operating or has operated a TPE 331 powered aircraft. Low oil pressure on this eng? Shut it down. Do NOT leave it running. Could’ve been catastrophic.

Go fly the PC12 with no bond, enjoy Ornge. Learn some stuff and see some stuff. Don’t sprint for a seniority number either, enjoy the ride, you only get to do it once.

Yes, you could fly a 1900 in a 703 op with no ATPL. You can also fly as PIC of a 1900 in a 704 op if you have 1200 hours and no ATPL. ATPL is not required for a 1900.

Re: Hiring problem
The companies that receive enough applications to warrant this already have it. The companies that don’t have it are too small and don’t need it or will want to pay for it. It’s pretty easy to decipher aviation resumes between qualified and unqualified candidates for the smaller companies anyways.

Re: How long til $100k?
Started flying commercially 3 months before covid. I broke 100k this year. Fastest way to 100k in the industry right now is to be a medevac captain in my opinion. If you go medevac FO make sure you have the PIC requirements accomplished prior to accepting the FO position or else upgrading becomes a ...
