Re: Plane takes off with concrete tie down attached in Kelowna.

Another friend was in YPL with a Turbo Otter on skis. Got airborne with a cement filled tire attached to the tail. Apparently flew “ poorly “, so they came back and landed.
I watched that one happen! The tire towed along nice and smooth..

The last few classes have had some higher time applicants, i.e. 3000-5000 hours for FO positions.
Yes, and some are down closer to 1000hrs. Lots come with no time on turbine, or pressurized aircraft either. It goes in waves. Sometimes they have lots of experience, and sometimes very little.

Re: Singapore B773 enroute on Jun 27th 2016, engine oil leak

Holy crap on a cracker! I can't imagine any scenario where an aircraft is on the ground at a major airport, on FIRE (and not just a little bit) and everybody just sits there at the direction of the CREW instead of bailing out. Did ATC not let them know that the whole wing was going up? What about th...

And don't forget the oil companies are supplying their own aircraft, ground crews, paying for and arranging charter aircraft, providing lodging and food for YMM residents, and even space for things like medical care. AC and WJ are doing lots, but the big dirty oil companies are doing it for free AND...

Pretty well anywhere but North America there is no "declaring and emergency". You declare a "mayday". Anything that will or may require priority handling requires a "pan pan". We have somehow gotten ourselves away from that philosophy here and now treat a mayday as something only to be used as we sp...

I used to do it all the time and all for one company even. I would fly a HS748 until I timed out on one thing or another, and then go jump into a Caravan and keep going until I timed out on that one. Then take enough time off to go back to flying whatever needed flying more. One day I actually timed...

No, nothing further. He had sat there like that for about 30 min before being approached. By the time buddy had made a trip to the bathroom and back, he had stripped off his finery and was wearing the basic white shirt. He was still there when I showed up. ....wearing his white shirt, three gold bars on each shoulder, Jazz wings and airside pass. Then he gets himself a nice table on the terrace by the sidewalk. Nothing like downtown Montreal in the summer, watchin' the babes on the busiest street in town, and feeling pretty cool. So then another pilot...

Okay, I'll buy the fact that in this case, they may not have known until after they exited the runway. The description reads (to me) like they knew about it, then they exited and then they bailed out. I originally posted using this example, buy with a more general philosophy in mind.
