Re: Delta bought some of WJ because the pilots are so cheap?
Not sure what the kind of financial situation the average Westjet FO/ recent hire is in with such low pay to fly a 737 or even 787 Last year as a WJ 737 FO with 2.5 years of Service ($91/hr half the year, and then $116/hr the other half) my T4 said 170k. This year will be 200k+ Yes I did lots of OT...

Re: Encore hiring Foreign Workers??
Those with more experience aren’t applying. It’s not that they are choosing to hire low timers, they can’t hire the others. 2000 hrs gets you on the radar at Air Canada. Until recently I was flying with individuals on the 767 with just over 2000 hrs total. Close to 2 years ago word around the offic...

Re: Air France tailstrike
I wonder if the FO hesitated on the go around because he already actioned the reverse thrust. I know the procedures at some airlines dictate that you are committed to landing once you have deployed thrust reverse. I think the 737 crash in Cranbrook is the reason this policy exists.

Re: Pilot schedule at Perimeter
Schedule is good. They almost exclusively have long single day pairings. Most days seem to be credited between 5.5-8 hours. Bid window is 78-90. With OT kicking in at 85. Captains are scheduled right up to 90 hours a month. Often works out to about 12-16 days. Junior captains when qualified are sen...

Re: QoL and Upgrade Process
Why not go to Westjet? They should be hiring again in fall 2025. YWG is the most junior base, so you would get it almost immediately, and it would be quick to get off reserve. Also will likely always remain the most junior base to upgrade in. Sure, upgrade will take longer, but do you really want to...

"Cleared to land" = Pointless use of words?
"Cleared to land" What does this mean? I know that sounds like a dumb question, but it seems like at some airports it means absolutely nothing. When I started flying, I always thought you could not be issued landing clearance by Tower until you were #1, and the runway was clear of other traffic. Thi...

Re: 737 - anyone ever use the N1 and Speed buttons on the MCP panel?
Settle down everyone. He didn't say he didn't know what those buttons did, he was trying to say he didn't see a situation where they would be used instead of Level Change, V/S, VNAV, etc.... For those that fly the 737, have you ever actually touched either of those buttons? I am not talking about wh...

I don't understand these fake news AI websites. There was another article posted on this website that said Onex was exiting WJ ownership. That article was supposedly posted 3 days ago, but no other news agency reported on it, and nothing was shared with employees. Any big changes like this are alway...

Pisses me off when the boomers assume that everyone coming to AC is a fresh atpl with 2000 hours. That accounts for maybe 5%. Maybe try reading the new hire profiles.

Re: TA
Just to add some flame to the fire. WJ pilots actually make more than rates you posted above. FO's receive an additional $605/month as a lump sum payment. Captains receive $858/month. So come Jan 01, a Westjet FO with just 2 years of service (Pay step 3) will be making the following: 120.16 x 77.5 x...

To the employees who think there will be some advance warning or notice, remember that Lynx was literally hiring pilots and taking credit card payments for flights up until their bankruptcy announcement. I know a new hire LYNX pilot who was literally talking to HR/flight ops about booking their Dead...

Re: Bird dog down
Accident could have been avoided if he just shut the engine down and did a stabilized single engine approach and landing. All to often I read about this. Exactly. The fact he was having low oil px and engine issues and didn't shut it down he was asking for trouble. Years, back I had exactly the sam...

What does a car mechanic make? I always thought they were paid like a max of 70k at most, with a lot of them starting under 45k. Sure, the shop hourly rate is high, but that never goes to the employee. I agree you guys should make more, but what exactly are you aiming for? I am just curious. My nei...

Re: Interesting Engine Issue Situation
This actually bothers me a lot. The metro has 2 separate indicators for low oil pressure. You have the annunciator light, and the actual gauge. Both indicators are hooked up to separate sensors, therefore if both indicate you have low oil pressure, you can be 100% sure you have low oil pressure in t...
