Re: Canadian North Layoffs
A study in why Canadian aviation can’t rely on commodity prices and one-time projects. Like when 5T flew all through covid and never laid off any pilots? Some commodities are necessary at all times. They didn't lay anyone off because the government covered the wages in SOME industries. They didn't ...

Re: Dreamliner Down in India
I just edited my previous post. I am a “Triple” driver and while APU to Pack take offs are possible, they are almost never performed. The packs on the 787 are electrically driven and never run from the apu. So the open apu door points to something really ugly.😒 Interesting, I didn't know that about...

Re: Cost of Commuting
My company pays an additional $2k/mo for pilots that live further than 150km from their base. Can you tell us what type of company this is, while I like the idea, I can’t see any airline doing this. A posi space commute is likely the best we could ever hope to achieve Canadian North. I should have ...

N17TJ is flying again. That bill must've stung a bit. Insurance must be astronomical for the guy.

Allegiant rejects 70% pay increase
https://www.avweb.com/aviation-news/allegiant-pilots-reject-70-percent-pay-increase/ More than 97% of Allegiant Airlines' 1,300 pilots have authorized their union to hold a strike vote even though the airline has offered them a 70% pay hike over the next five years. Teamsters Local 2118 said the inc...

Zero surprises here. This will pass. For every vocal senior captain on here sticking to principle.. there’s ten more who only care about money. Just like the US gerontocracy.. senior captains will vote for their big raises to cash out for their last few years because they “deserve it” and leave the...

Want American Salaries? Move to America
It's unfortunate that each time I read about AC in the news regarding the strike, the only salary given is the top, not alot of mention of the bottom. I'd assume this was a management influenced article. I'm also tired of the healthcare argument. I've lived in both countries, and the healthcare was ...

An automated tug that takes care of all ground movements. Start up the engines at the hold short line, and away you go. Millions saved in fuel costs.

Re: Westjet cancelling flights due to cold in Calgary
YEG was -44 yesterday morning, deice fluid LOUT is -43. I know that alone caused a few delays. Also the previously mentioned ground equipment. Frozen lavs, pot water rigs, fuel trucks, bridges, you name it. Anyone who has operated equipment in the extreme cold knows how difficult it is.

Re: How long til $100k?
It's easy to consider this an aviation problem (and it is), but looking at the larger picture it's a Canadian problem. I know a number of people in trades and healthcare that have left for the US in the past few years and they are doing exceptionally well compared to life in Canada. The brain drain ...

How long til $100k?
I'm at year 5 of commercial flying, and will see just over 100k base salary next year. I'm curious to know how long it took you to reach the 6 figure milestone in aviation.
In my opinion it takes all of that, and maybe more depending on where you live, to raise a family these days on one income.

As a frequent deadhead(ing) airline pilot, I've never seen domestic flights so packed as they currently are. This is on AC and WJ domestic. They don't seem to be having any problem selling seats. No idea about international loads. Purely an observation, I offer no opinion on the current or future st...

I know a guy that took a 40 year break from flying, went back at the age of 64, doing pretty well in the 703 world, and is loving every minute. The only limit is the one you put on yourself.

I did at 34, never looked back. I still don't make as much, but I'm close, and I work FAR less. And when I'm off, I'm off. No more 24/7 calls and emails. 27 is young still, go for it.

Re: piper pa32 crashed last night near kananaskis village
I found the sale ad for that aircraft, formerly N716CM. Looks like it is/was a reasonably equipped IFR machine. Useful load stated as 1332lbs. If he filed IFR, 2hr flight to Salmon Arm, 15gph (at least), with an alternate and reserves they would have to be 6 pretty small guys to be legal weight. If ...
