Re: Float School will not sign ADB until extra fee is paid?
Authorized persons are not being paid by TC. Yet they still have costs to send in documents to TC. Some regions require in person meetings for certain sign offs. They aren't supposed to charge you anything, but they are also under no obligation to sign off your documents. It's a symptom of a sucky ...

Float School will not sign ADB until extra fee is paid?
Hi all, I'm still quite new to the aviation world and I've never been one to understand mounds of paperwork. So hopefully you all can help me understand what's going on here. I recently completed my float rating at a flight school that is not my main one. I finished the rating late in the day, as su...

Re: That Smooth Landing
This has been a pretty interesting thread to read. Lots of good points as well. A good read considering my flight school is dealing with a sharp increase in tailstrike incidents on their training aircraft recently. They are all 172s. P R and S models. Most of the incidents occurred with PPL licensed...

What’s the rules for logging Actual?
Hi all, In the middle of my instrument training right now. I’ve been talking to a few different instructors on how “Actual IMC” is logged in your logbooks. Some instructors swear by a rule stating “.3 for every hour is the industry standard” but I’ve heard some of the other IFR instructors say that ...

Equipment/procedural changes for Night VFR!
Hi all, I’m sure you’ve found out through COPA emails or other means. But TC is attempting to change the definition of “VFR” and the requirements. Mainly for that at night in sparsely settled areas. One of the requirements they are proposing is the use of night vision equipment. Both for use in trai...

So I'm pretty sure the country is well aware of the current legal battle between Michigan and Canada over the Enbridge Line 5. How does everyone feel about this?

Re: What does the IATRA give you?
You're correct in that the IATRA gives you the privilege of being able to get a type rating with your CPL. As for the sim requirement, that's a nope unless it's brand new.... can you find a reference? Or better yet, ask your school/instructor to show you where it's required....I'm suspicious. I was...

Does this online flight planning service actually work in Canada?
Hi all, A friend of mine recently came to me and explained a new software he had discovered. He said it allowed him to create, file, and close flight plans as well as receive weather briefings. I've always just called FIC to file, as a NavCanada employee told me once that they don't like dealing wit...

What does the IATRA give you?
Hi all, I'm currently in the middle of an Integrated Training Program and have completed my CPL flight test and written exam. I'm just kind of getting lost on the privileges of a CPL+IATRA compared to an ATPL. I thought I had known them well before. Perhaps I'm just confusing myself more than necess...

Re: Study Time
I went hard for 2 weeks and spent about 10 hours a day in that time studying. Walked out with a mark I'm proud of. My advice would be to really crank hard on Met and Gen. Met will be about 30 questions or more on your exam. I had 34. And it was all theory aside from like 3 Metar TAF questions and 1 ...

Re: Landing at night before the lighted displaced threshold
The airport I fly at has a displaced threshold at night by lighting. I believe this is to account for a forest area that acts as a black hole on short final. My question, is it “illegal” to land and touchdown before the lighted threshold at night? On winter nights with the moon you can clearly see ...

Re: Styrofoam substance blocking 172 fuel vents?
Hahaha, yall are funny. I will defend myself and say I know the difference between the fuel vent and the pitot tube. XD. To be more specific. This foam would collapse in my hands, and would more or less break at the lightest touch, before dissolving into the ground. When I told my instructor about ...

Hi all, First I'd like to thank all the responses I got from people. It was very helpful to hear all your great input. As I'm sure you're all aware, the Coronavirus really jumbled up the industry and resulted in a lot of changes that ultimately affected my decision greatly. With that being said, I'm...

Re: Ailerons Initiating The Spin
Yikes to that video. Here is what I always remember. The downgoing wing in a spin, Is more stalled than the upgoing wing. The key is that they are BOTH stalled. So the ailerons are entirely useless. However. Applying aileron in the opposite direction of the spin only makes things worse. As the ailer...

Re: How is Brampton Flight Center?
I'm quite familiar with that place. Overall, very good school. Fleet is very well maintained and there are instructors at the ready. The 152s were sold last spring so a 172P is your best budget option. It's a good location training wise. Uncontrolled field allowing for easier flight training (no lim...

Hi all, As winter rolls around some of us were discussing the modified procedures for flying in the cold at our flight school. Re: IFR to only GPS Approach Airports.
Do you have access to the CAP GEN document? All requirements for using an airport with RNAV approaches as an alternate are in there. Not at the moment no, I haven't really started IFR yet. But maybe it's about time I get the CAP lol. I guess what I'm more thinking about is filing IFR to your intend...

IFR to only GPS Approach Airports.
Hi all, Looking around online and trying to read the AIM has my head spinning about IFR GPS procedures. Mainly about filing to airports which don't have a traditional Navaid. Where the only approaches would be non precision GPS approaches. (Eg. LNAV only). I want to say you are allowed to file to ai...

Re: Watch That Climb Fuel
I'm just VFR at the moment. When I'm flight planning for fuel, I always refer to the POH to get my climb fuel to the top of climb (TOC), 99% of the time when using set heading points, you won't be at your SH when you reach your climb altitude. So I plan a mini cruise leg titled TOC to SH, just to ma...

Go where someone needs a pilot and do anything. I've always been interested in doing something outside the norm. Like surveying, firefighting, or Medevac or something. I feel like I want to instruct early on as well. Really drill in those foundations of handling and theory. Though I don't really car...

Does FSS clear IFR aircraft to land at RAAS MF's?
Hi all, I've just been starting to look into some instrument stuff for the fun of it. And I had a conversation with somebody about doing an IFR approach into Muskoka (CYQA) airport. The airport itself is situated within a Class E control zone, and has an MF where an RAAS exists. So I guess it is tec...
