Re: Looking for info for Canadian ATC jobs for American controllers.

Canada is a bilingual country, and air traffic controllers need to be proficient in both English and French. While the primary language for aviation communication is English, French proficiency may be required depending on the location. youtube vanced apk Only controllers working in the Czul FIR an...

Re: IFR from a Class E without a PAL or FSS

Flying from a class E zone on an IFR flight plan, This zone doesn't have a PAL to call center for clearance nor FSS but has an RCO with Edmonton FIC. I know I can get an IFR clearance relayed from FIC. My question is can I depart VFR without getting my clearance and grab the clearance in the air fr...

Re: That was a close one...

So we go from bashing AC pilots to bashing ATC? While GTAA and NavCan have their issues, lets deal with them in a constructive dialogue. It is pretty disrespectful to make wild accusations like that, it disrespects a lot of very competent professionals. I said; "organization" not the staff. Nav Can...

Re: What was your career before ATC?

I sold running shoes. Was 18 when I applied, got in at 19 and have been at Nav for 17 years. Wow, that's incredible! How has your experience been? After 17 years I figure you've seen it all. It's been mostly awesome, except for a few periods like COVID, 2008 recession etc.. I've been able to progre...

Re: Random drug tests?

There’s no drug test at work after your initial pre-employment one. Even if there’s an incident there is no drug test. That's shocking. Imo it should be the first thing done after an incident. I think an ATC license holder knows better than to take drugs, be impaired, put two together and be found ...

Re: What is salary upon completion of training?

As an IFR controller you can easily, and I mean easily break 300k(400k is doable with maximum seniority and supervisor pay) yearly. That's not even close to maxing out on overtime either. The quoted salaries on the Nav Canada website are so low I don't know any controller who makes anything near tho...

Re: Eligible for FSS but not for ATC

That information is true for ATC to ATC postings but not necessarily from FSS to ATC. It isn't as simple to transfer from FSS to ATC and there are absolutely no guarantees as to if that switch will even be available to you. The process is much different than say switching from a tower to IFR or vice...

Oh okay that's great to know, at least it means they need people, so I have more chances of being picked for training haha, merci Definitely! If you’re interested apply ASAP. The process can be quite long and depending on what job your interested in there are still very limited spaces for training ...

Honestly, we are short in pretty much every single unit. VFR, IFR or FSS. Hard to answer! Re: OT at Nav Canada

I haven't had one mandatory hour of OT and I work in one of the shorter units in the country. Not saying it doesn't happen, it's just very rare. That being said, you can pretty much work as little or as much as you'd like in terms of OT. Most specialties are short staffed. The actual schedules are a...

Re: Any updates on training?

Right, the fact that they are actively promoting it is interesting. Would suggest that they are indeed looking for new recruits, guess we'll see. There is actually a newly dated job posting on the careers page- I know, during the pandemic, there was a long standing posting, but I believe this has b...

Re: NavCanada in the hot seat

“Non-profit” Please, show me where Nav Canada’s profits are. Last I checked the airlines received 10’s of millions of dollars in service fees from Nav Canada before the pandemic. Non profit doesn’t mean nobody is profiting, just because Nav Canada doesn’t turn a profit doesn’t mean the executives a...

Re: Any updates on training?

Basically the company announced they want to rehire ab-initio trainees and start recruitment again. They expect to bring back the trainees for end of 2021 and restart training in 2022.. These aren't rumours, it has been announced by both CATCA and Nav Canada in separate statements. Good luck to eve...

How's the staffing situation there? Short staffed?
