Re: Do people still drive cross country to drop off resume's?

Back in the day, I drove from Prince Rupert to Halifax and back to Van. Island. Saw the country, met some nice people along the way and also met a few not so nice guys... it’s a great trip, slept in my car and ate at truck stops - great breakfasts... made some new friends and got a taste of Canadian...

Re: OMNR Tanker gear up

This re-enforces what I have maintained for years. There should either be a safety pilot in the jump seat or the best solution is the trainer is in the jump seat. This is the way simulators work so why not extend that to airborne training as well. There was an interesting ‘save’ back in the day at ...

Re: OMNR Tanker gear up

Howdy guys, you can put all speculation to rest. A buddy who works the OMNR fleet just informed me it was a practice flap-less approach during a training flight and the pilots forgot to lower the gear. These things can happen, they shouldn't, but they do... she will be rebuilt at great cost, but she...

Re: Anybody Joining/Rejoining the Airforce?

All this talk about pension got me thinking - I always wondered if aircrew who do the minimum years (not sure how many years that is) and then retire from the Forces in Canada start getting pension payments the day they leave, or do they first start getting pension payments after 65? I always wonder...

LF info on Forest Protection Limited (FPL)

Howdy everybody! As gardening season winds down over on Van Isle, I have been wondering if my application at FPL will get a bite for next years fire season. Can anybody in the know share with me via PM the current salary expectations, schedule and other pertinent details for the Air Tractor pilot po...

Re: What are the three biggest reasons for floatplane crashes

Well written Castorero, funny I’ve lost three friends too... all to float flying. Some highly experienced and one not so experienced. And, I’ve had my fair share of close calls too...
I can still remember some of them as clearly as if it happened yesterday...
I enjoyed your post, thanxs!

Re: What are the three biggest reasons for floatplane crashes

Great topic - I would say after two decades of float operations the top reasons why accidents happen with floatplanes are: 1. Poor decision making (rookie driver/over confident/poorly trained etc). 2. Poor skills. 3. Loss of situational awareness and a lack of understanding of the dynamic nature of...

Re: SFU facial hair study

Since we are on the subject of facial hair - I have often wondered how the RCAF handles the religious minorities such as Muslims and Sikhs who serve in our Armed Forces. Are they exempted from these regulations under a religious right to wear turbans, long hair, full beards, beards with no mustaches...

Re: Morningstar

What surprises me the most is two fold: firstly, young pilots entering the industry believe that when you hit 16000 hours with 10K hours heavy turboprop command plus thousands of hours on multiengine sea aircraft that you are automatically employable when the industry tanks and a few job adds start ...

Re: Starting my Aviation career in Canada or Europe?

I would suggest training in an EASA certified program - perhaps even in the US. You will get an EASA CPL, plus a FAA CPL all in one go... then you take the FAA CPL and convert is easily to the Canadian CPL - ratings and all... very easy...
Good luck,

Has anybody here applied for the FAA CPL using their Canadian ATPL? I was just told that the ATP was not required, I will only need a FAA CPL and a class II FAA Medical.

Re: Got a letter from a Doctor at Transport regarding my class 01

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I am turning 50 soon, no family history and Blood Px active and at rest are both well and I had my heart checked at a separate doctor using a cycle and ECG. He told me I am extremely fit for my age. I’m just a big guy. I used to lift regularly, now only once in a wh...
