Re: Poll: What is the most embarrassing aspect of the Air Canada pilot contract?
The problem is the whole tone and attitude of posters in this site today. All there is is tossing shit and putting people on defensive. "Air Canada sucks and the pilots are pansies" "The boomers fucked us" "ALPA are a joke" It's all bullshit and only divides. We need to be bringing up issues that a...

Re: Strike outcome desires
Options are these. Quit and find another high paying career, or don't apply at all. If they can't fill seats theyll have to raise the starting pay. The fact you all knowingly accepted said wages says you are OK with it. So once again STFU. The mental illness is on you for a) accepting a term, then c...

man the troll babies are in full force, christmas present expenses must be neigh. Funny and sad how close to 100k isn't enough for some, or maybe 1 multi-account poster here. I know many FOs here, and at AC, WS etc, at starting wages and they are making it, and most don't complain. I and others, inf...

Re: First in Canada 100% deadhead pay Will other alpa pilots follow?
I son't like that pay incentive for exceeding CARs duty though. I wouldn't call it an incentive, but rather a cost to the company, and less likely to create pairings that push to those time limits. Unforseen rarely happens here in my experience, and it still requires that all onboard be willing and...

Re: Strike outcome desires
A huge thanks to the negotiation committee for the hard work and long hours, and to the MEC and reps! Also, thanks to the unified pilot group, and to all those who supported us at the info picket (AC, WJ, Porter, Jazz, Delta, Fedex, Flair, etc etc). Yes a few things aren't great, but overall, it's m...

Re: New hire lifestyle?
Curious about how Transat is looking for a new hire these days? Which base and aircraft are junior currently? Both bases for 321, YYZ for 330, will depend on experience and seniorty draw. YUL 330 junior FO Aug '24 hire How many days a month on average? Depends a bit on base, and type. For April bot...

Finish it, then re-evaluate your career choices, you've come this far. Take a day of work to get the test done. If you have to do it a 3rd time, well it should come easier. And as cdnavater said, the start of your career maybe met with disappointment. Resolve and passion will carry you in this career.

Re: captain upgrade timeline/requirements for new hires
Ok, thanks for then reply. So one can expect a fair amount of deadheading to Europe then? Not really, only if to augment back or some weird pairing. Usually junior, and they are finalizing more efficent pairings through Jeppsen, so should be less Are you guaranteed a business class seat on other ca...

Re: captain upgrade timeline/requirements for new hires
From buddies there who are still patiently waiting for the upgrade, it'll be more like 6 or 7. Therefore, the FO pay scale must take that into account. Most Junior Captain was hired in 2018, so I'd say 4 years if we don't count Covid for a YYZ spot. That’s not how time works, Covid happened and all...

If Transat fails, AC will pick up the slack and you could apply there, maybe they hire you but you should probably get rid of that chip on your shoulder before the interview. Don't you know that Transat is the greatest company to ever exist in the belle province of Quebeckistan and everyone who has...

Nice to see the comradery. A few Canadian aviation companies are struggling. Even Jazz, selling off Falco to stem the debt tide, and erasure of AC flying. We are all in this together and should be supporting each other. Canadian aviation is FUBAR. No doubt. I also have no doubt in Air Transat to rig...

Re: Air Transat considering 80-person layoff amid financial turbulence
If the government wants to get serious about competition in Canada, they need to change the foreign ownership rules. I realize they’ve increased it to 49%, but nobody will invest unless they have a controlling interest. I couldn’t care less who owns the company as long as the pay cheque keeps comin...

It doesn't make sense at all to send the E2 across the pond. It simply can't compare to the 321N or 737Max, on those segments financally. Nor was it designed to conduct such an operation. It's powerhouse is short segments with high ultilization, with the flexibility to do some longer transcon. The ...

Re: Air Transat considering 80-person layoff amid financial turbulence
Back on topic. No one is buying Air Transat, not with the current debt. Porter doesn't have the funds, and Air Canada won't due to EU demands, and not WestJet due to competition laws. Currently, management is on a course to right the ship, renegotiate loan terms, and be more efficient. If however, t...

Re: Does a Yes Vote mean Air Canada Pilots aren't World Class?
There's more to a contract than starting pay. One would have to weigh and compare the whole contract to others. Is it world class? No. Is it Canadian class? Barely. I will say, it seems the company wins with how divided the pilot group is over this TA. Best of luck to you guys.

Interesting choice of words in that article, leaving it unclear if the hard landing caused the emergency or the emergency caused a hard landing. The video imbedded in the article has a passenger claiming that they were unaware of any issues until seeing fire trucks… Make me doubt that the crew brie...

"Transat A.T. Inc. is preparing to lay off up to 80 workers as the tour operator struggles to turn its finances around, according to a preliminary notice sent to the Quebec government. Over the course of the year, the company has felt the headwinds of stiff competition, engine recalls and the threa...
