Re: Don't be a scab

My original post was aimed predominantly at the 7% (roughly 100ish) whom did not support the strike mandate. Seriously, I still can't believe we only got a 93% yes vote. When you look at the US airlines.....when their union asks for a mandate, it's an overwhelming 99%+. It can't be 100% because of c...

Don't be a scab

Less than two weeks left.

If you're not ready now, I doubt you ever will be.

That said  When the time comes, don't be a scab :radioactive:

Re: Be Ready

Most I fly with are of the same opinion - either pay up or burn the place to the ground. It’s either going to be an industry-leading contract for the WJ pilots, or there won’t be a WJ left. I can confirm this sentiment. The past five pairings, not one single person I've flown with had any sympathy ...

Re: Porter Airlines E195 ground school 2023

Ran into a buddy I haven't seen in a while in T3 last week. He had an interview, but is seriously considering going elsewhere because of the no-hotel deal at Porter. It's definitely a pilot's market.

Re: How many WS pilots want YUL?

We have more commuting from YOW than YUL. Any new base would surely be welcomed by the pilots in that area. I can't comment on YUL stuff, but I "occasionally" commuted from YOW years ago when I was going back and forth to take care of some family issues. I never had a bad experience. I think twice i...

Re: Vax communication

You can really see the difference between when the jobs of the high seniority pilots are at risk compared to when the jobs of the low seniority pilots are at risk. This is a different MEC/LEC group we have today. More than 50% of the overall leadership group are new. Most significant, is a 100% new...

Re: Vax communication

IMHO, I think the new group of LEC/MEC have been doing a stellar job in their limited time at the helm. There has been a noticeable change of mentality, geared predominantly towards representing the pilot group FIRST and FOREMOST. No more "relationship" building with the company, sacrificing our WAW...

Further 106 being recalled October & November.
At full WAWCON too, as per the CA.

Imagine where we'd be if we voted for extended concessions. We'd all be eating sh!t for years to come.

Short term pain, long term gain.

Re: More WJ layoffs

Back to the topic: From the union update this morning there is no deal. PIlots won't see or vote on the last company offer. 415 layoffs and the reduction bid will go ahead Apr 1. This is posturing. Pure and simple. There are still over 2 weeks remaining in the current MOA. The company's "final" off...

Re: More WJ layoffs

Well I’m thinking no more pilot layoffs. Vaccines will be fully rolled out by sept so how can you lay off a pilot in April and rehire some in sept? Especially with the PTA? The pilot won’t even be done line Indoc by the time recalls happen. Just my opinion. I agree. I'm not worried about further pi...

Re: Retirements at Westjet

Back on topic. Virtually no retirements at WJ. A few per year, but based on 1500ish pilots, it's incredibly low numbers. It's pretty much work till you lose your medical, pass away, are fired, or become an "early quitter" to pursue another source of employment. Sad really. It'll be worse now that an...

Years ago my wife and I have decided to go back to a more simple life (after a tragic event in our family). We sold the big house and lots of stuff we weren’t really using, then we moved into a small condo living an extremely minimalist lifestyle (fed up with the overconsumption!). Great decision; ...

I know more than a handful of WJ FOs have exceeded 150-160k in their 3rd year on property. Some 5th, 6th+ year FOs break 200k with OT. But hey....if you want to make half that as Captain jumping from ship to ship.....thats cool too, i guess. Back to the original article.....what rhymes with "inspiri...

Re: Sick Bank

Its hard to use sick bank when you only fly 1 or 2 pairings a month these days, although on the flip side, were getting great value for our bank. The average duty day right now is min credit, so calling in sick, youre only dinged 4 hours a day. Heck if youve been hoarding sick time and have 100+ hou...

Re: Fixed wing to heli

They may want your money (it's a business after all) but i'm willing to wager the majority of heli schools are better versions of a training environment than their fixed wing counterparts. More experience instructors, better equipment, more real world ops. Just my observation when I looked into conv...
