Re: Aged WestJet pilots win right to not retire

It should be that this is a 30 year job - or as long as you hold a medical or are just ready to go. It is wouldn't t matter then whether you are hired at 25 or 35 or 45, everyone gets there time at the top and the progression keeps going. To be fair, flight training has never been more unaffordable...

Re: CBC coverage- Pilot’s frustrated ATC rant

it was always the stories like the one you mentioned where someone was 95% of the way there, and then shown the door. Event's like those are VERY very rare in reality. There's far more success stories in qualifications that no one hears about. It's the vocal minority that feel the need to stand on ...

Re: Aviation Medical Review Board

It's feels like TC is trying to kill off aviation with a death by 1000 cuts. Part of me actually believes this is true and there is a liberal conspiracy to harm aviation for environmentalist reasons. Hanlon's Razor suggests it's incompetence though and not intentional. Carney has said publicly that...

Re: PIW or jump ship?

I would certainly be sending out resumes and doing road trips when you can to keep building contacts. As winter sets in up north turnover can happen fast. The company under promising still leaves room for them to over deliver, I'd rather this than having them constantly say "maybe tomorrow". The on...

Re: Canadian North Layoffs

Empress has always had ups and downs, that's the nature of charter work. I haven't heard if its 737 crews, or ATR, or a mix being hit. Porter is hiring 400 more pilots, AC is still going, as are Jazz and Encore, so the folks getting layoff should be getting picked up quick hopefully. It's amazing h...

A study in why Canadian aviation can’t rely on commodity prices and one-time projects. Empress has always had ups and downs, that's the nature of charter work. Forklift??? Are you joking? Many here wouldn't trust you with more than a snow shovel for two years. I mean clearly two years slinging bags, while you forget all the hard earned skills, is a great use of professional training. I'm just glad I came into this as a second career and simply laughed at ...

At canadian airports its always very clear where traffic is and atc will follow up with additional instructions anytime an aircraft is really even in your vicinity. ATC in canada always has very positive control and clear Verbiage/instructions for aircraft. Where in the US ground controllers are of...

Couple of questions. Does CargoJet have a commuting policy and does anyone commute from YYC? Any info helps. Thanks! Your post above is irrelevant. Your search was “flight attendant strike”. Google search now curates pictures with flight attendants in it. Try typing in “pilots at flight attendant strike” and you will get photos of pilot strikes and FA strikes. Also, when the news is taking pictures, they want pic...

I can only speak for what I saw on TV and what I heard from some FAs but many of the pilots who care were dating the FAs on strike, were the pilots technically working during the dispute? You can't criticize HR ladies like you couldn't criticize immigration. Until suddenly you could. Trust me, they're next for people to notice their negative impact. Nav Canada has an HR problem if guys are making $400k and they can't get anyone to fill those roles. As an outsider looking in, the pro...

One thing is for sure, the FA group is far more tenacious and headstrong (ballsy) than AC pilots can ever dream to be.
