I think it’s very sad to see AC dropping some routes.
As to what equipment will operate when/if these routes open again, I’d imagine that fuel efficiency will be the name of the game. I think the Q4 might be the more fuel efficient machine compared to the RJ900 and E175. Who knows though...

Re: Layoffs
If a guy gets laid off and has to sit at home and watch this from the sidelines, maybe it is a blessing in disguise I’ve heard that some daycares are turning away children of aircrew because they perceive those kids as high-risk disease carriers!! For those with kids, not working might just make li...

Re: Central Mountain Air FO Pay
I don’t think anyone is paying 57,000 for a 1900 captain in Canada in 2020. I also don’t think anyone at a place where they are paying six figures for a 1900 capt is going to go from zero to hero in two or three years. Maybe Wasaya, but then you deserve it. Unless you’re coming in as a DEC in which...

CYBL incident on June 17?
A friend was out at the airport and thought they saw the emergency vehicles tending to some parachutists.
I hope everyone is ok! It doesn’t sound so good. Nothing in the news or CADORS, yet.

FAA ATC going private
I just watched Trump announce the "privatization" of the FAA ATC system. It will be handed over to a private, not-for-profit agency in what sounds like a similar fashion to Canada. He specifically announced that Canada did this about 20 years ago, with good results. In typical fashion, he proudly an...

Re: Air Canada Accident in YHZ
I'm of the opinion that TC shouldn't legislate further restrictions on approach bans because of this accident. The way I see it, companies and crew hold a joint responsibility to mitigate risks in operations. When vis is at 50% of the CAP recommended value, there is an increased inherent risk of hav...

If you're asking in relation to a type A dispatch system, I found the following in standard 725.20 Scroll down to the description of a type A system and find section (5)-flight watch, you will find this: (c) In-flight reports shall be directed to the flight dispatcher performing Flight Watch: (i) af...

Re: de-ice procedures at various airports for small planes
It's been 2 years since I was up to speed on YVRs deciding procedures, so please let me know if it's changed. Since Aeromag 2010 took over, they've implemented quite the centralized process for deicing. Almost everybody has to use the pads, where they recover the product! If you use the main termina...

Re: Nav Canada Service Charges
From what I understood when reading the financial statements, the retained earnings didn't move from FY12 to FY13 (ended August 31). The revenue was $1.247B, with expenses of: salaries and benefits, tech services, facilities and maintenance, interest, and depreciation and amortization totalling $1.1...

Re: Curious about a career with Nav Canada as a Controller
You may already have seen this but check out takecharge.navcanada.ca, I think a few of your questions may be answered on there. My understanding is that you rotate between a few positions in the unit that you're working. For tower, you may rotate between clearance delivery, ground, tower, etc. In th...

Re: Entering controlled IFR from uncontrolled airport
Nope don't have to leave to re-enter class E your VFR until your IFR and your not IFR till you have accepted your clearance which means once you have a clearance to be where your at, your clear to be where your at Hmmm good point. Is that where they might clear you "to the XYZ airport via present p...

Re: Entering controlled IFR from uncontrolled airport
It's my understanding that you can depart VFR at any time, regardless of whether you've filed an IFR plan or not. You would just squawk 1200 (assuming that you are not going to climb above 12,501' while maintaining VFR). You then fly as you would under VFR rules, avoiding class B, C or D airspace. N...

I checked the MEL and I could only find the following for the 300 series regarding the touched runway sensor: (O) (M) May be inoperative provided, prior to each flight, the underside of rear fuselage is confirmed free of damage. [editorial note: if there is (M#) then you need an AME signature, other...

Re: Claiming EI While on Training
I could be wrong, but this is my take on the situation. I think you'd be good on parental leave EI only... You're paying Nav Canada to go to school for the duration of your course (you'll be issued a T2202). If you're on parental leave, I think you're allowed to do (almost) anything that you like. I...
